Titan Builder: Questions About Several Features
Hey there,

I have a handful of questions pertaining to building. If someone could help, I'd appreciate it.

Could someone explain pickup count and Titan Spawn VO please?

Will we be able to use external tools to prepare work to submit to the Workshop, similar to the way it is done with Team Fortress 2? I like the toolset you have opened up so much that I downloaded the free Unity3D engine and whatever other free sculpting/texturing tools, etc. I could find and think it would add to the learning experience if I could use them to make things for the Workshop.

At what point does it pay to go with a Unity pro license in your opinion since you guys work with it regularly?

For some reason when I go to edit a particular Titan, it is coming back as the download file is empty. All my other builds open fine and I was able to subscribe to and play the Titan just fine. Just a Steam glitch?

Finally, would you consider adding a checkbox to re-enable weapons affecting child mod damage? By taking it away, you effectively nerfed every Titan in the Workshop. To compensate, I have found that cranking up the damage and really lowering the modifier will produce a decent result, but it was much easier to gauge on the old system and the Titans came out tougher and better. I understand some builders were having issues and OP'g their creations, but taking it out completely makes creating tiered damage much harder if not impossible. I have parts on my builds cranked up to 50 health and a very low cmd and they still fall off fairly fast and instead of being able to offer tiers of challenge, the Titans more or less have a general level of toughness. It is just nice to be able to polish the Titans in such a way.

Thanks for any feedback provided.

Hey

Here are some answers:

>Could someone explain pickup count and Titan Spawn VO please?

Pickup count is the number of gears the core will drop when the Titan is killed. This only matters if you have multiple Titans in the fight (we'll probably change this at some point). The VO is for the voice over audio to play when the Titan spawns. We haven't actually included any in the game yet, though.

>Will we be able to use external tools to prepare work to submit to the Workshop

The in-game editors are actually the same tools used by our designers. No one but me (programmer) and occasionally the artists use the Unity editor for DRP related work. I do totally encourage you to play with Unity and those other programs, because you can do some really awesome stuff with them. They just won't be very useful for you in making DRP content (at the moment there are no plans to allow custom piece importing).

>At what point does it pay to go with a Unity pro license in your opinion

Don't bother getting a license unless you plan to make a commercial game and really need the special features (shadows, fancy rendering things, etc). The free version is pretty solid.

>For some reason when I go to edit a particular Titan, it is coming back as the download file is empty.

Darn, sorry about that! I've seen this occasionally, and I'm trying to track it down. I generally find that restarting the game (or Steam sometimes) fixes it

>Finally, would you consider adding a checkbox to re-enable weapons affecting child mod damage?

I think there's probably a better way for us to allow builders to make tough titans, so we probably won't put a checkbox for that in. It could get confusing when you don't know, as the player, if the weapons are going to affect the Titan's health or not. We're still experimenting here though, so there's no telling what way we'll go.

Cool Elliot, thanks for the info. That's pretty awesome that we get the same gear as your designers! As always, very helpful...have a good weekend!
