2/26 Greenlights
A little surprised no one else has started a speculation thread... So, what games do people think will be given the green light this time? Also, isn't this a bit earlier than previously? Maybe they'll start approving games once a month, which would help move things along a little bit faster (well... aside from the developers needing to incorporate the Steam SDK/finish their games).

Personally, I'll be happy if anything I upvoted is included. If not, well... I'm already aware that I don't always agree with majorities.

Basicly anything I upvoted, mainly Castle Miner Z and Black mesa source

I absolutely have NO idea what will get Greenlit. I wonder how Valve chooses the games? Is it just random, or what?

You may want to look in the list of stuff that has already been Greenlit.

I think it's the items with the most votes, though Valve may pick some that are just near the top of the list that they like. Still, that's just my guess at how it works :)

Let's speculate. Why do people vote for games?

Huge and vocal fanbase
  • Pinball Arcade
  • Warsow
  • World War II Online

Kickstarter success (if they can get the Kickstarter crowd to vote on Greenlight)
  • Legends of Eisenwald

Well received by critics (and fans of the genre)
  • Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller
  • The Cat Lady

Backed by a popular franchise (tv series in this particular case)
  • Doctor Who: The Adventure Games

Nostalgia: Classic games, homages to classics or mods for popular games
  • Black Mirror II
  • Black Mirror III
  • Company of Heroes: Eastern Front
  • Gray Matter
  • Mage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements
  • The 7th Guest by Trilobyte Games
  • Venetica

And just because I think I read somewhere that it ranks high on Greenlight
  • Legends of Dawn

Made it to the top 100, but has been moving fast

done well on kickstarter

succeeded on kickstarter and seems to be pretty popular

Euro Truck Simulator 2 has shown that niche games can be successful on Greenlight and it never left the top-sellers list since it entered the Steam store.

This could be another "surprise hit", the response on its Greenlight page looks like it could have a chance:

I really hope Distance gets in. Looks amazing.

Some I think will be greenlit and deserve it:
Cognition
Distance
Talisman
That car making one I forgot the name of (I'll edit it in later)
After that my personal taste differs wildly from the crowd...
Of course, it was http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93233471&searchtext=automation

They have stopped development of the game'm not sure it's a good idea to select it.
Tamerlane Feb 22, 2013 @ 3:11am
Development on Cradle (which is ranked 4th I believe) has not stopped completely, though they are in trouble.
Organ Trail is in the top 10 (spot 5).. I have little idea how the rest is doing.. Anodyne is on spot 50 but they moved up very fast the last few days due to a promotion. I'm hoping for Warsow but it's not in the top 100 (yet). Inquisitor is near or just in the top 10. Distance has a very vocal fanbase but I don't know how well it is doing.
@Thecheesegod: Black Mesa has already been Greenlit.
@Thordred: I'll be suprised if any of the games you listed will be greenlit. Legends of Dawn is ranked 20th at the moment.

I do hope a big batch is selected.

I always hope to be surprised and find my game Greenlit, even though it's not particularly close to the top 100 at this point :/ Still, a lot of the picks so far have been pretty good. I'm hoping they will at least take a good chunk of the top games.
Kuhaa Feb 22, 2013 @ 6:42am
I'm hoping to see Anodyne and Knock-knock added in this batch. I backed Knock-knock on Kickstarter and received a survey today where one option was to get a copy through digital distribution which just happened to need a Steam account.

Anodyne has done quite well with their TPB promotion, and their rank skyrocketed from 100 to 50 in just a couple of days. I hope Valve notices this since I'm dying to play this game, and I honestly think it deserves to be here so more people will notice it.

Other titles I'd like to see get a green light are Homesick and Legend of Dungeon. Other than that there aren't that many titles that have caught my attention but that have not been greenlit already.
