LORE CONFLICTS
This is a disscussion for those who would like to somehow explain clear conflicts between factions (Ex. Joining the Imperial Legion and killing the Emporer during DB questline), please provide reasonable explainations.

It is not a conflict as such.

Joining the legion, you would just become a soldier/Legate and serve under General Tulius in the name of the Empire.
While when you are in the Dark Brotherhood, you must complete the contracts, no matter who it is. The Empreror, your mother or anyone else. Besides, when the price is right, every loyalty can be bought.

If it still bothers you so much, imagine yourself becoming a "sleeper agent" in the Legion.

What I'd like to know is which side wins the Civil War as far as canon goes.

If Ulfric wins, and the Emperor dies (Which I'm asuming'll be canon), the Empire's gonna be in a pretty rough spot. It could set up nicely for a destined-to-fail-unless-a-single-epic-badass-helps-out rebellion against the Thalmor sometime in the future.

If Tullius gets the win then I suppose the Empire lives on, even though leaderless and crippled...

That we will find out in the next game or the DLC. Because frankly, in TES' best traditions, it must be pre-decided, which side will win. UNLESS then plan on making a system like in Mass Effect, where choices of your characters in early games can be carried over to the next game.
Or, maybe there will be a "quiz" in the begging of next TES. Something like "Who won the civil wat in Skyrim"? And your answer would decide some of the random chatter in the game.
No matter what, the Emperor would be killed by DB.

They don't have to decide, they can always opt out for a "Warp In the North"

As for conflicts between joining multiple factions, I don't think there are any. I see no conflict between joining the legion and offing the emperor. Maybe you need to rationalize to your roleplaying self, but that doesn't mean there's a conflict.

well technically not always because you can get cicero arrested and kill every one but babbet but the rest is cool i agree it would be nice to cary over stuff from one game to the next

As the Thalmor were planning to take over each race of Tamriel approx every century, it probably does not matter who wins in Skyrim. After all the next game will be set in another part of Tamriel who knows how many years in the future and Ulfric will probably be dead.

Skyrim may be under Thalmor rule. The Empire could be facing another civil war elsewhere and like all countries another Imperial leader will be chosen.

My quandary comes from factions in different holds. I have not done any part of the Civil War quest, but I have beaten Alduin many times (with different races). For example, I really dislike the Silverbloods in Markarth. Likewise the Battleborn in Whiterun. To me lore would dictate that Ulfric needs to submit (won't happen) or be eliminated. Even though he was handed over lock, stock, and barrel to the Thalmor, he could (should) have worked with the Empire to eliminate the larger threat (Thalmor). And I really dislike the Thalmor, any time I run across a prisoner escort party, I kill them. Tying in with the Truce part of the main quest, I can't stand the thought of the Black Briars overtly running the Rift. So, I would tend to side with the Empire, but...did I mention how much I dislike the Battleborns?
Ideas, discussion please.
