They are adventure games. It is very appealing to BOTH guys and girls...
There are several ways to play the game, and several types of character to choose from, then you can customise the look of that category of player.. I play with a Cat/Human creature which is pretty good when playing a sneaky type..there are males or Female characters, you can basically make it your own. Go where you like, do what you like, fight Dragons that breathe fire, find treasure deep in dungeons and caves...make your own weapons and armour at the Blacksmithy...sell loot that you can plunder from other gangs in the land...go hunting,
Or just play the many missions that are all tied into the landscape and the people of Skyrim..You can even choose a side to fight on in a civil war that rages between the natives of Skyrim and the Southern bourne 'Empire' from Cyrodiil.
The game is definitely worth the money, especially on the PC as you can mod the game to feature even more cool stuff.

You would probably enjoy it so much your family would have to pry you away from it and remind you that you have a real life.

Have you ever played Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. Skyrim is very similar to those games, so if you like to be fully emersed into a role, then you'll love Skyrim. I personally bought this game just before Thanksgiving and already put something like 80 hours into it. Awesome game and very well worth the money, plus you get the Creation Kit with it to so you can add to the game however you want to and then share with others on the Steam Workshop. Very cool/good stuff all around.

Bethesda Softworks games are very realistic in more ways then any other I have played. In Skyrim exploring leads to many more discoveries than just Easter Eggs I found ways to climb to places which in other games look like we should be able to but can't. I found Bethesda Softworks MORROWIND allows for the freedom to move around too. There are so many mods for MORROWIND you could get deeply enchanted to the point of never having time to play the game, because you would be busy testing and chosing which mods you like better. LOL
