[REQUEST] Why isn't there any appealing Thompson Submachine Gun mod?
Hello.

Don't bother telling me to go look for it at L4Dmaps, because I already did. I've used the search words "Thompson" and "Tommy", the results are those Thompson Submachine Gun mods are unappealing.

For examples...
http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=19429
Pros:
- The model looks nice.
- It has a stock.
- It has a laser sight effect.
- The reload animation looks just about right.

Cons:
- It's not a SMG (if the damage is not to your liking, maybe on a M16 also would be suitable).
- The textures look too glossy, doesn't fit in with the other L4D2 guns.
- The drum is kind of small size.
- It doesn't have a flashlight mesh.
- It doesn't have a Thompson Submachine Gun icon.

Pros:
- It's a SMG (if the damage is not to your liking, maybe on a M16 also would be suitable).
- The textures look nice.
- The drum is right size.
- It has a flashlight mesh.
- It has a laser sight effect.
- The reload animation looks just about right.

Cons:
- The model doesn't look nice.
- It doesn't have a stock, which it looks really weird.
- It doesn't have a Thompson Submachine Gun icon.

If someone could make a Thompson Submachine Gun mod with all the pros, it'd be nice and appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, icon is not really needed imho.
The first one looks okay, apart from the horrible textures.
The second one looks awesome, but no stock ruins it.

And no, you can't combine SMG and Tommy gun/Thompson. The SMG animation causes for the hands to be really close to eachother, and you can't put a decent Thompson in that. (Talking about world model)

Unless you change the animation, chances are small it's going to happen.

M16 seems to be a very viable choice.

Animations are quite tricky, now combine a custom model with a drum magazine and modeling into that and you've got quite a crappy combo, takes a lot of work.

Maybe someone can port over something from Gmod? There's some great Thompsons there. (I would if I could, I'm new to the modding section in L4D2. Only messed about with making sound mods which I released as well, but I'm looking into other stuff.)

That all aside, I'd be interested in having one, as well as an MP40 ^^

- Yeah, it's not really that important. Just giving my two cents.

- To me, I prefer the model on this one. But, exactly the textures is unappealing at all.

1. I like it, because the reload knob is at the side.
2. I like it, because it has a short muzzle.
over this model:

1. I don't like it, because the reload knob is at the top.
2. I don't like it, because it has a longer muzzle.

- I don't really mind the SMG's hands position animation at all, because I'll be playing it in first person view. Well, if it really bothers you. Why not have two? Make it one on SMG and the other one on M16, it's a win-win. Afterall, it's called the Thompson SUBMACHINE GUN. So, at least one has to be on the SMG.

- Have you even tried those 2 mods I posted yet? Their animation on reloading the drum is not that bad, at least for the 1st mod. Because, the reload knob is at the side which it's really suitable.

- Why not just ask permission from the author of those 2 mods? Wouldn't it be easier?

- Yup, tearing up zombies in style.
