I can and will give you some things to do - to help figure this out.
First - Do you have any DLC's? Dawnguard - Hearthfires - Dragonborn?
They >> MUST << be loaded in this order at the top:
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm
Dawnguard.esp
Hearthfires.esp
Dragonborn.esp
Again they MUST be in this very specific order.
2nd - ( this the pain in the butt part )
Un-check ALL your mods. DLC's are NOT mods. Leave those checked.
Now with any and all mods turned > OFF <
Play your game and use the M function for MAP. Do you CTD ( Crash To Desktop )??
If yes, ... well let me know, because well ... more involved game corruption is at play.
If NO ... ( which I hope is the case )
The turn ON the first MOD - Play and use M for Map.
Yes ? No ? to CTD.
IF yes - then turn that specific MOD > OFF < again and turn on the next one and repeat until you have all the mods turned on that did NOT cause the M - CTD.
NOTE: There could be more than 1 mod at play and you might find you have 2 or more turned off. Do not be surprised if this is the case, but also do not be surprised if it's not the case. . o O ( just saying )
Then go to the Specific Mod Forum and READ the Description Page - Bug Reports and Posts in the forum. Let the creator know as they may not be aware. Let them know specifically what you did to 'get to this answer'.
