Zafehouse: Diaries
29 januari, 2013 - Screwfly Studios

Polygon's Tracey Lien caught up with Zafehouse: Diaries developers David Kidd and Logan Booker[] for a chat about the ideas and mechanics behind the game, as well as the origins of the original Zafehouse.

Here's a snippet from the article[]:

Zafehouse started as a modest PC experiment. Today its sequel has entire forum threads with tens of thousands of views dedicated to role-playing the game.

"I'm pretty blown away, actually," Kidd says. "It's just absolutely astonishing. We looked at the surface area of the game and thought, 'How can people interact with it?' Typically with PC games you just play the game and there's a one to one engagement. But there are so many ways you can interact with Zafehouse: Diaries."

Players can play on their own, in forums, add themselves, their friends, their families, their home towns and they can share their diary. "These are their stories," Booker says. "These are their experiences, their relationships — this is what they went through."

If you thought you'd mastered Zafehouse: Diaries, think again! Patch 1.1.6 is out[] and with it, an entirely new game mode, called "Road Kill", that will test every skill, strategy and secret you've learned about the game so far.

Search the town and scavenge for parts for a broken-down vehicle. Your survivors will then have to fix the vehicle before they can drive themselves to safety. To support this new mode, we've not only added new content, but modified existing dilemmas and events to reflect the altered objective.

The best thing about Road Kill is that rescue is now entirely in your hands -- the game won't end unless you drive out... or die. Even if you do make it out alive, relationships and the supplies you've gathered play an important role in just how well you do. How these affect the end result, well, you'll have to play and find out!

Road Kill represents the largest addition to the game since its release; it really changes the way you approach the game. You'll have to re-examine those rock-solid strategies that served you well in Classic mode and try different tactics if you want to succeed.

As usual, a complete list of fixes, changes and improvements can be found on the forums[].

22 november, 2012 - Screwfly Studios Since its release on September 28, 2012, Zafehouse: Diaries has spread its original and addictive blend of turn-based strategy to Desura and GamersGate. We've also organised several exciting events for the next few months that we'd love to tell you about, but have to stay under wraps for now!

What we can share is news of version 1.1.51, one of the biggest content patches we've released so far. We've responded to player feedback and coded up extended customisation options, new dilemmas, items, locations and events. In addition, the graphics engine has been tweaked to deliver significant performance boosts, both in terms of frame rate and load times.

If you'd like to see a full list of changes, head on over to the Zafehouse: Diaries website for the official patch notes[].

In other news, we've put together a new trailer that really sets the mood for the game. The perfect thing to watch just before you dive in!

If you haven't already voted for Zafehouse: Diaries on Greenlight, we'd love for you to throw us a thumbs-up! If you can't wait for the game to arrive on Steam, you can always purchase it directly[].
