We always get a lot of requests to port Eador. MotBW to Linux and Mac systems. And, of course, this is our intention as well. But initially we planned to make other versions only after the Windows release. Recent Gabe Newell’s statements made us rethink our plans one more time. If this man puts Linux to such a high priority then we should pay our attention to this matter more closely already at this point.

We’re happy to announce that Snowbird Games starts working with a separate team in order to bring Linux and Mac versions of Eador. Master of the Broken World. We hope that the game will be released on all platforms simultaneously this spring.

I called Windows 8 new and strange, not Linux... In fact, I don't think I even used the word "Linux" in my comment at all. Defensive much? I'm just saying Steam could be put into the Windows Store, be launched from Metro, and launch games just the same as anywhere else. I don't see what the big deal is. About Microsoft not approving Steam, Microsoft wouldn't reject an app unless it violated their very precise policies, unless of course they wanted legal issues.

@maestro: Linux is actually older by about a year than Windows. It is over 20 years old now. It is not new and 'strange', just different and much more well-established in the server space for example. And Microsoft will obviously not approve Steam when it is a direct competitor to the Windows Store. That's what 'walled garden' means, the holder to the keys into the store can end your business's whole income just like that. Curse Apple and its infective (and horrible, Apple, like MS, does not allow you to use many programming languages, you are locked into their own) business model.

I dumped Windows 5 years ago for Linux; I currently dual-boot, and use Windows ONLY for gaming (imho, the only thing it's good for), and use Linux for gaming (also) as well as everything else I do with a computer. Windows 8 is a bigger-than-Vista disaster for Microsoft, and Gabe Newell, while he may me a bit overoptimistic about people abandoning Windows for Linux wholesale (Yeah, right. They'll just keep using Windows 7), but his newfound support for Linux is welcome farking news. I blew my week's budget buying Crusader Kings 2, but I want to show Steam, and Paradox Studios, that Linux users are HUNGRY for AAAAA games.

Gabe Newell is a bit short-sighted, in my opinion, about dumping Windows. It is new and strange, yes, but not altogether a failure. Why not upgrade Steam with Windows, instead of switching platforms completely? Just put Steam in the app store, and have the games as executables that can be launched from within the Steam app. Big deal.
