Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative
Aperture Tag will use the Steam Workshop!
April 27, 2014 - Motanum

Hello test subjects!

I am very happy to announce the Steam Workshop for Aperture Tag. Users will be able to create their own puzzles using a modified level editor from Portal 2. Create and play puzzles made by the community using a paint gun.

Currently, the level editor and it's parts are very rough and mostly a proof of concept. However, this does show that it's a feasable thing to do. Where the goods greatly displace the flaws, so even if it is not as simple to use as Portal 2's editor, it still would bring a lot of value to the game and it's value.

I have created a Developer Commentary video, where I showcase how it currently works and what you can expect of it.

If you have questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer. More info will be available later, as more work goes into the game and things become more stable.

Thank you for your support!

Also, I noticed that while holding objects, your paintgun had no place for the blue line particles to connect to the gun. I could see them shooting out of the origin of the map, and so if you don't want it to look weird, then you should probably make those particles invisible.

Hey Motanum, you can always release the PTI update after you release the game, like valve did with Portal 2.

Also, coop would probably only work with atlas having a paintgun and pbody having a portal gun, since logic_measuremovements and other entities to control the motion of the paint on the view are broken for secondary players.

probably, to handle the viewmodel change for atlas and pbody, the paintgun could be a modified weapon_cubemap scripted entity, and the portalgun could stay default. then, give pbody a portalgun and atlas the modified weapon_cubemap for the viewmodel and a few other entities (logic_measuremovement, info_paint_sprayer, game_ui, etc)
