The Gate
Play "The Gate", Then Decide!
November 27, 2013 - Spicy Horse Games

A big "Thank You!" to everyone who has voted for The Gate so far. As a small, indie development studio we really appreciate your support and feedback. If you have questions about our games, our studio, or our approach to design and monetization, please ask. We believe in full transparency and open communication with our audience. On that note...

Lots of people asking for more details about the game mechanics and for a Beta launch date. All these questions can be answered in one simple way: GO PLAY THE GAME!

But before you do that... please take a minute to read the following:

The Gate, as we're launching here on Steam, will be a full-blown client-install version, not a web version. That means it'll be multi-hundred megabytes of content, packed with high fidelity 3D assets and visual effects, and running on PC, Mac and Linux as a native install. It will be presented with a one-time, low price, purchase fee that grants you a ton of start-up goodies in-game.

The version you can play today is a web version, which is still beautiful, but won't hold a candle to the full visual glory of the client install version here on Steam. Please, keep this in mind while playing :)

Also, please try to keep an open mind about the fact that this is a multi-platform game. Yes, it's going to be available on iOS and Android devices. And yes, you'll see that the web version is on a website most of you associate with (crappy) casual web games. Please, don't let this distract from the fact that The Gate is the furthest thing from traditional casual mobile/web games.

Why do we bother to explain all this? Because we're trying to push the boundaries here... we're trying to bring high-quality, 3D-gaming content to places it's never been. This is how the little indie studios break away from the monopoly of traditional publishing controlled by the EA's and Activision's of the world. And that's not a bad thing, is it?

Whew. So... now all that's been said, we'll STFU so you can get on with playing the game:

Play it RIGHT NOW by following THIS LINK.

Once you've played, let us know what you think. And if you like, it, give it a YES vote!

Thank you, from the entire team at Spicy Horse!

It's now also had its worldwide release on iOS, so you could perhaps try it there too?

Can't try it because its on Facebook, but you get my thumbs up nonetheless because the concept is interesting, and because I know Spicy Horse Games has a solid history, even if its not universally acclaimed.

Well, your own web platform is all I really meant, I don't like all these hubs like kongregate all that much :p.

@Chizu, Thanks for the YES vote. Much appreciated. And yeah, we will be making updates to improve the mouse-controls. As for how it will run on your (admittedly awful) laptop... there will be additional quality controls included in the client versions, so you'll be able to adjust visuals and effects for best performance on your hardware.

For alternate places to play on the web, we'd love to add more, but our team is small and integrating to additional platforms takes focus away from more critical things (like improving the game itself). For this reason, we're hoping to keep the number of web platforms to a minimum. Probably... the next web platform we'll launch to is our own, which is called SpicyWorld[spicyworld.spicyhorse.com].

@Insanely wild, it's working for us. Could you provide more detail about the problem you are experiencing? What sort of OS/browser are you using? We'd love to help, but need more info.
