All users tend to organize their files using the main system folders: My Pictures, Music, Videos, etc... AdventurOS will take advantage of that by theming the room with special backgrounds and decorations. So if you have a folder full of .mp3 .ogg and wav files the game will recognize it's a music folder. Same as if it has mainly image formats; the game will recognize it as an image folder. If the amount for one type of file is way bigger than the rest in the folder then the game will theme the entire room.
As an example we have the music folder interpreted by AdventurOS as a Musical Temple or Musical Gallery or Little Music Church (Depending on the amount of files) since in the world of AdventurOS music is the basis for all the religions that the Filers practice.
Here you'll fight monsters based on the files you can find inside the room and, by doing so, freeing all the npcs inside them.
Let's say we have a folder with 10 .mp3 files. As a result you'll have a big monster made of 4 files an other 6 smaller ones, which will free a big NPC Priest and 6 smaller ones.
When the room is clear and safe the light ambientation turns it into a brighter "sacred like" room, and all the Priests and singers will rebuild the main music altar somewhere in the room. They will be worshipping the architect there and they will take turn taking a place in the altar singing the song that is related to each NPC (since each one is related to a different .mp3 file) for the architect.
Another example would by the library. Let's say we have 30 ".txt" or and .doc/.odt files being a majority into the folder. The theme of the room will be a Big Library then, full of flying monsters, some of them made out of groups of ".txt"
Sometimes the monsters are not NPCs but cursed items, so once the monsters are dead they will also release items, in this case books or scrolls. The biggest monsters will release Scribe NPCs. Once the room is clear the scribes will fix the library and collect the books and scrolls on the shelves. Those scrolls and books can be read by the scribes if requested, showing the exact content of the .txt or .doc file it is created from.
Those are just a few examples for better understanding on how the castle is created.

All the citizens of the castle give their prayers and admiration to their creator: The Arquitect.
The Architect is a deity, an ancient power who has the control to create or destroy anything inside its realm (almost anything).
Just in case you didn't notice yet, YOU are The Architect, the user of the computer where the game is running. As an Architect you have the power to create or destroy the world of AdventurOS.
For better understanding we will explain how the rooms in the castle are created, modified and indexed.
Modifiying the castle
First of all, to create a new room in the castle you have to simply create a new folder in any directory of your choice. That will create a new room and will add a connection to it, adding a new door and platforms to the previous room.
The content of that new room will be determined by the files inside it, so any new file you add to it having an understanding of how those files modify its properties will determine its content.
The same happens when you delete a folder or a program is installed or uninstalled.
The folders and its content get indexed each time you enter a room, updating the map, creating the actual room for the first time and making the connections to next levels. From that point this same room will not be indexed again until any change has been made in the directory of folders by The Archiquect. In that case the player will be warned and the next time you visit it you will refresh the map with the new changes.
Size of the castle
There will be a lot of people with massive disk space that may not be interested in having a huge castle, and some other ambitious people might want to see their drives collection turned into a massive AdventurOS world .
Even that we'll add a portal system to it for easy travelling to different important rooms you may want your castle to be "not so big"
When you start a new game you'll have the option to determinate how many levels (meaning depth into folders) will be used to create the castle. Always starting from the root directory.

People love customization, and we love it too!
But, using the customization topic as an excuse, we want to introduce you to the main race of characters of the game:
AdventurOS' main character is part of a race of digital beings called the Filers. They are like cells in a body and work in order to maintain the castle for The Architect when he is not paying much attention.
With a possibility of an everlasting lifetime, they can be very old-born, growing in the fundations of the castle itself, where they become kings/queens or big influential individuals (lords, chancellors or treasurers) with power and dominions of their own. There are also merchants, workers, villagers and of course newcomers (group from which our protagonist belongs)
The Filers have no particular skin color or shape, they can be very big in size depending on their age.
Their cultural rituals are based on the use of decorative hoods and items such as precious crystals or shields.
Our hero in the shadow comes in the recently installed new caravan.
Did you know?
There are three main types of cultures among the different castles in the world. Each three have their own hoods, colors and habits. They can be divided as: the Windudes, the iDudes, and the Gnududes.
So, at last, it is time to talk about customization!
Your own "Filer"
When creating a new game you'll be able to choose the name, gender (male or female) skin color and its size up to a certain degree. Also hair style, its banner and the main color of its hood.
This customization will not affect the stats of the character but, besides being fun, it gives the whole experience a more personal touch.

This has been an incredible welcome you all gave us and we want to thank you for all your support and feedback.
We have summarized all the important questions in an attempt to anticipate to those you might have, but please don't hesitate to ask for the list to grow bigger!
I'm an Indiegogo supporter, will I get a Steam key when ready?
Every Indiegogo contribution from $5 on will get a Steam key as a way to redeem the game.
In case you have multiple hard drives, would it create new castles?
Based on our design, each new hard drive must create a new castle linked in some way with the others.
This is different for each operative system. We will sort a few design issues out to make it perfectly work on every computer.
The game will read different sources such as pendrives or external disks.
Are we going to be able to mod the game?
We love modding!
We didn't want to leave such a good idea trapped into a medieval costume so we will give people the proper tools to customize it as much as possible.
Creating a treasure folder = profit? Not really.
Nothing is stopping you from being creative.
As the Arquitect you have the power to create any kind of folder in your castle, but the game will somehow balance itself.
For instance, all chests need a certain ammount of keys to be opened. Those keys will be droped by the killed mobs, which means a lot of fighting.
How will the game recognize file types with no extensions?
This task becomes quite simple by using Python.
Our main OS is Linux so we had this in mind from the beginning, but it's easier to explain in Windows terms.
Why not online co-op?
Unfortunately this can bring many security issues since the whole structure of folders and files of the host is being revealed. Since the game is scanning your files as you play we don't want to send any kind of private information to other computer but your own.
Random generation vs your folders
A few users considered there is no difference between the concept of AdventurOS and a random generated castle, but there is actually a huge differenece.
The structure of the folders gives an incentive to explore a pre-defined map which is most probably very well known by the player.
There are also a lot of folders and files in a computer that are usually forgotten and this gives the exploration a whole new level of enjoyment, since you are actually going trough your own system of files.
This turns AdventurOS into a very different and (above all) exclusive experience.
It's just not the same!
We have explained a few interesting concepts about the game along the indiegogo campaign updates which you can find here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/adventuros/x/3518903?c=activity
