Death Road to Canada faced a big delay. We've been keeping people updated on the Kickstarter backer updates and on Facebook/Twitter, but have been neglecting the Greenlight page. That's going to change starting now. I'll make a post at least every month here, or earlier whenever there's something big to report.
We were on track before the delay, but then decided to make the interiors prettier. If you look at the trailer posted, the rooms were all really bland. Square boxes, random furniture thrown into the middle of the room for no reason. We thought it would be a good idea to make the rooms made in the random level generator look more like actual rooms. Furniture that makes sense, rooms divided into bedrooms/kitchens/bathrooms, barricaded stockpile rooms, stuff like that. This extra feature ended up being a huge ordeal that ate months of time.
The more advanced location generator is solely responsible for our release schedule being obliterated. We haven't announced a new release estimate yet, waiting on that until we're sure. Hopefully it was worth it, as the random levels are a lot nicer now and more varied. In the meantime, we also had the artists make tons of new stuff, so there will be more content to find. Overall, Death Road will be a better game for the delay. Still, the delay was terrible for everyone, and I doubt we would have changed the level generation if we knew it would take that long.
Next announcement, I'd like to post a new trailer so you can see all the changes and polishing we've done. Until then, here's some random quick news:
- We have a couple Steam Machines now. Looking into supporting the controller, and making sure it looks good on a big TV (and looking into local co-op more).
- A partially live-action trailer may happen, involving a dog driving a car. Not joking.
- There was a bug where a house or apartment could be generated with all bathrooms. We decided to leave that in.
Thanks for the huge amount of patience! Videogame development is extremely goofy sometimes, and sucks most of the time.
