Wayfarer: The Outer Reaches
Kickstarter and Progress
April 11, 2013 - Bright Sprite Games

Thanks everybody for your support so far, this announcement is just to remind those who don't know that a kick-starter campaign will be running for Wayfarer within the coming months where you will be able to back us and purchase a copy of the game with loads of wonderful incentives thrown in alongside. We will still however need all of your support to ensure this game can be finished and can see all of our plans and ideas come to light :)

I will definitely buy this. I will definitely get everyone I know to buy it, and tell them to tell everyone they know to buy it. It looks awesome. There is one thing that would just make me want the game even more, however... zero-gravity while in space flight (or if your artifical gravity systems get damaged)? Even better, all your friends being thrown into the back of the ship when you preform a major burn and they aren't holding on to anything. I would also really enjoy having to manage holes in the hull (having several airlocks in the ship that are controlled remotely by several consoles in the ship), and, just to top it all off, if I (and other people in the ship) were thrown out of a window if it shattered would be amazing... I can just imagine being in a dogfight, shooting a window, and seeing all my enemies fly out of it into space. Anyways, like I said at the beginning of the comment, I love this idea, and I will definitely play the game.

I'm guessing its more of an issue getting interiors to link up in a non weird way? You could put in modular size retrictions and try to make modules link up to other parts of the same size? or allow players to rescale the modules at their lessure (larger scaling requires more resources). I believe there would be a way to make it work non the less so hope you find a solution to the modular incompatibility issue etc..

There is also the option where you have allot smaller modular parts that allow the player to assemble rooms bit by bit, and assign it as engineroom with engine related parts for example (including placing wiring ducts). That would work but not sure how ideal it be or how much work that may be to do, could be worth prototyping the idea in a Alpha DevBuild sometime?

Add it as a stretch goal then? I don't know, I just want to make custom ships that aren't cubes.

@PRiME hey prime our ships will have a number of areas that you can upgrade to improve various aspects of the ship, for example the turrets, engines, flaps, shields, hull, weapons, fuel and a few more.

However there is no plan at this stage to include a "make your own ship," mechanic into the game, it would involve alot of modular modelling and because each ship is being created with an interior there are various other factors that also have to be allowed for meaning not every part could go on each ship as each is a different size with a unique layout and design.

But we have had alot of feedback from you guys asking for this to be implemented and it is something we will defiantly talk about and see how it goes when the kickstarter has run its course. But as of now, there are no current plans for including this within the game.

hope that helps
Alex

I'm with PRiME here, a custom ship builder would really make this game.

Bright Sprite Games I have asked this before but can't find the post, will you be allowing people to create their own ships in some sort of ship building mode? if so will you put thought into having logical modulation of ship components (ie power plant, power lines, cockpit etc...) . That would be awesome if so. Would also save you guys making 100 different vessels which is gonna take a long time.

hmmm if you make it into a free roaming sandbox Firefly inspired game.. I would buy @ 100$ a copy.

A kickstarter so soon? As I see it you will be able to reach any kickstarter goal you set when you have a bit more to show than what you will be able to muster up in the coming months. Scifi games have seen tremendous success recently on kickstarter and I feel that with as much proof of concept as possible you'll raise more money.
