Freedom Planet
7 февраля, 2013 - GalaxyTrail

It's the final week of our Kickstarter, and we're making plans to improve the quality of Freedom Planet's graphics. You can expect cleaner sprites, more vibrant colors and more detailed textures in the future, especially if we reach our newest stretch goal!

We don't want to be cheap about hiring a pixel artist. We want to get the absolute best results that we can afford, which means that the more funding we receive, the greater our chances will be of making the game look and feel like something you'd find on a Nintendo handheld system.

(A revamp from one of our latest applicants. Center: Before. Right: After.)

That being said, if our funding reaches $30,000 in our final week, we will personally guarantee you the crisp, colorful graphics you've been waiting for since our humble beginnings. Although we will still be able to work something out if we come up short, we feel that this amount will secure us the funding we need while still allowing us to keep emergency funds in case there are complications down the road. And, of course, it gives our artist and animator more Freedom as well! (I'm not exactly the best at puns...)

On a side note, we're thrilled at the positive feedback we've received from our supports on Steam Greenlight! Don't forget that if we're Greenlit in the future, everyone who pledged $10 or more to our Kickstarter will receive the Steam version of the game for free. It's our way of giving you a big, heartfelt thank you!

Why did Freedom Planet go with Sonic-styled gameplay instead of, say, Mario or Call of Duty? How did it smash through its funding goal on Kickstarter in less than ten hours? How funny does Strife's voice sound? All this and more in an exclusive interview with Kickstarters' HQ!

We talk about the success of our Kickstarter and offer tips on how to get your indie game crowdfunded with almost no media outreach. We also talk about ways in which fangames can be converted into original property, the pros and cons to launching a Kickstarter and Greenlight campaign simultaneously, and more!

This has been quite a crazy week for us in a good way! We've been taking time to listen to some of the constructive feedback our fans have been giving, and we're continuing to improve the gameplay in a variety of ways.

For starters, the game will now feature widescreen by default, in addition to a redesigned HUD that makes better use of the extra space. Fullscreen will still be an option, of course.

In addition, we've significantly increased the speed at which the Energy meter fills up. For Lilac, this means she can perform a Dragon Boost every 4 seconds or so instead of having to run back and forth to build it up. In addition, using the boost while running on the ground will now carry her across the surface instead of bouncing her against it, making it a great way to reach full speed without the use of slopes.

These changes and more will be featured in the next version of the demo, which should be coming in a few months. We are actively working with developers of the Anaconda runtime and hope to get Mac and Linux demos ready by this time as well.

Right on!

Both IndieGames.com and the Danish branch of IGN.com wrote blogs recently about Greenlight quest: (IGN) (IndieGames.com)[indiegames.com]

In addition, our Kickstarter fund has surpassed $7,000, and, as promised, we will work on a future expansion set that makes Lilac's rival Spade fully playable. If we reach our next stretch goal, we'll add yet another male character to the list with weapons-based gameplay. We will of course work on this after the first release so that it won't interere with our intended release date. Those who have the full version will be able to receive these expansion sets for free on the spot - no DLC and no DRM!

With the extra funding, we'll be looking to hire more people to help bump up the quality of the animation and pixel art, as this is currently being done by just one person. We'll likely start our search on TIGForums when the Kickstarter concludes and then branch out from there.

A big Thank You to everyone who has upvoted, backed and supported us so far!

** Anyone who contributes at least $10 to our Kickstarter fund will receive the PC version for free as well as a free Steam key if we are Greenlit. ** It's our way of thanking you for helping us on our maiden voyage!

Yesterday, we launched our Kickstarter fund in order to raise money for software and art commissions, so that we can export the game to other platforms in the future besides PC and make the story as enthralling as possible. In less than 24 hours, we raised 150% of our funding goal! Granted, our goal was a modest $2,000, but now that we've got the essentials down, we've got some nifty stretch goals planned out in case we raise even more. Stay tuned!
