Freedom Planet
Status Update + New Character
20. tammikuu, 2013 - GalaxyTrail

Both IndieGames.com and the Danish branch of IGN.com wrote blogs recently about Greenlight quest: (IGN) (IndieGames.com)[indiegames.com]

In addition, our Kickstarter fund has surpassed $7,000, and, as promised, we will work on a future expansion set that makes Lilac's rival Spade fully playable. If we reach our next stretch goal, we'll add yet another male character to the list with weapons-based gameplay. We will of course work on this after the first release so that it won't interere with our intended release date. Those who have the full version will be able to receive these expansion sets for free on the spot - no DLC and no DRM!

With the extra funding, we'll be looking to hire more people to help bump up the quality of the animation and pixel art, as this is currently being done by just one person. We'll likely start our search on TIGForums when the Kickstarter concludes and then branch out from there.

A big Thank You to everyone who has upvoted, backed and supported us so far!

@ Brony; Ah, I didn't see that this was a "Single Player" game only, had there been multiplayer aspects of this game, then that issue would've been much more problematic. Carry on.

Nothing- So there's a world of problems with people being given the choice between having Steam and non-Steam versions, even though that covers those ground for people who like and hate Steam and the fact it's still the same game with or without DRM. Completely ignoring the fact that most people really don't care about DRM and just wish to play the game, and how a decent portion of people are already geared up for receiving both copies of the game; especially the Steam version.

Guess there's not really much else to say, then. Tiny minority thing and all.

@ Brony; That's a problem, because you're maintaining 2 different versions then, you risk splitting the community for those who really don't like Steam (People like that do exist) and people who use Steam. Right there is a contradictory, because if a game is reliant on Steam, it can get tedious and annoying. Steam is not DRM Free. I'd say stick to it as standalone or publish it on Desura. How would you be able to keep them together as most games from what I've seen that are on Steam aren't necessarily exclusive to being DRM Free? This game I would keep away from Steam as well as a bunch of other Indie games.

Nothing- Steam is just one of the distributions methods they have in mind. It's not going to be the definitive home for the game. The Kickstarter page even says as much for the 'full game' pledge reward; if the game (somehow) doesn't get Greenlit, you will still receive a copy of the game when it's released. If the game does get Greenlit, then you'll -also- receive a Steam Key for the game when it's released so that you have it both standalone and via Steam.

I have to say, while this looks like a fantastic game, the possibility of it being DRM-free while on Steam doesn't make a whole lot of sense, considering you will NEED to bind an account directly to Steam, forcing you to use it making the game depend on Steam too much. Granted the convenience is there, as most people do have steam accounts, but there do exist people that really don't like Steam that don't want to use it and would prefer to just have a standalone download. So far, I'm downvoting this game, I would not want to see it on Steam.
