Metacell: Genesis
September 7, 2016 - artsoboy

Hey Steam community!

Chris G of Products For Robots here with an epic update! Apologies for the very long radio silence. Life has been full of adventures in the last year and a half!

Even though we haven't posted an update on Metacell lately, other things have been moving. While we were in dev-stasis on Metacell, John and I created a card game called Colours & Shapes. We were successfully funded on Kickstarter and have been working diligently on finishing that project and getting the game in the hands of our backers. To learn more about the game check out these links:

We decided to do a card game while Tom (our programmer) was busy coding away on other projects since we could actually complete it with just the two of us and keep development moving forward for Products For Robots in some way. Colours & Shapes actually stemmed from an attempt to turn Metacell: Genesis into a cardgame (Metacell: Genesis, The Card Game Kickstarter). People really enjoyed the simple, family friendly gameplay, but the sci-fi theme wasn't meshing. We ended up stripping the theme out and rebranding to what inevitably became Colours & Shapes, and so far it has been really well received and even won a few accolades along the way (including Best Table Top at Indie Bits[www.indiebitsfest.com]!).

As far as Metacell: Genesis the video game, we are getting back into the swing of things. Tom has been working on the engine and implementing the mechanics for Puzzle Mode. Now that Colours & Shapes has wrapped up, I have been working on updating art and creating new assets and animations for Puzzle Mode. The menus are getting an overhaul as well. Lots of things are happening!

Real life has definitely affected development as well. Tom has been busy at his day job and growing his family. I recently got married and my wife and I are expecting twins (dad mode, here I come!). We have also been growing our dev team. Matt Killion is our new audio-bot and Al William just came down to Athens, Georgia to be our new art-bot and help us on the 3D side of development. Things are ramping up quickly as I prepare to take my leave by the end of September to tend to all the dad things. We also fired up the social media machine and have been actively posting on Instagram for the past several months. You can check out our social media stuff here:

So that's the long and short of everything. We are currently trying to get Metacell released in open beta with free Arcade Mode and the debut of Puzzle Mode! We will be posting a lot more here over the coming months as we get closer and closer to beta release, so stay tuned!

Thanks so much to all of you who upvoted the project and got us Greenlit. It means the world to us that there is so much interest in Metacell. Our Steam release couldn't be possible without you all supporting the project. We can't wait to get this game out there for you to enjoy! Until next time, keep gaming everyone.

Sincerely,

Chris G (artsoboy[www.instagram.com])

Dearest Greenlight Community,

Thank you!! It was your interest and support in this project that got us here and we really appreciate it.

So the skinny I have talked to everyone and we are going to be working on finishing the assets needed to complete and tighten up beta02 for open release. Then find a way to fund the project either through private funding or use kickstarter to get something done that we can be proud to call done and have available in a faster amount of time.

Again thank you for believing in us.

Stay dreaming,
John Posey III

Howdy do kiddos,

So I'm forcing myself to emerge from my development bubble and talk about what we have been working on for the past year and let me tell you it is a metric fuckton of new things to talk about, look at and play with! (hehehe play with).

Like this! The battle mode for Metacell: Genesis is designed in such a way that it works both as a videogame and a traditional boardgame without any tweaking!!! So to test the battle mode we made it and you can check it out yourself here Metacell: Genesis The Boardgame[www.thegamecrafter.com]

And you don't have to take my word for it... Fathergeek a boardgame critic gave his review about it and you can read all the things he thought about it here[fathergeek.com]

So in short tons of fucking cool things.

I will post another announcement soon with something neat. But right now I am gonna go poop.
