Dogfighting Gameplay Video Uploaded
April 25, 2013 - Paul

Seven minutes of one continuous dogfight caught while capturing gameplay footage for a new video.
The battle was so much fun I wanted to upload it in full 1080p.

Here's a direct YouTube link.

Tell people if you like it. we need support to make this game happen.
Seriously, if you like the vid, link it to at least one other person, and tell them to link it if they like it too.

I'ts all good. I need all the feedback I can get if we are going to make this game the best it can be.

Oh I ment nothing negitive about the game itself just figured (like you said) that any feedback would be helpful.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I made a mistake of compressing a bunch of sound effects a few days before making the videos. It was a quick fix to get more sound effects working simultaneously, but it backfired by creating too much 'noise' and reducing overall clarity.

I also realised too late (while reviewing the videos) that the impact sound of weapons against the walls was drowning everything else out. The videos are overwhelmed by the metallic noisey thud of those impact sounds. I reduced them to about 35% of their current volume today to allow the weapon sounds and other effects to be more noticeable.

I have to give myself very tight deadlines on each job to ensure things keep moving and so problems like those above are bound to show up. But that is why the game is only just at the alpha stage.

Thanks for the feedback Perma Hexx. All feedback is useful. Be aware that the game is still a long way from complete and is only just starting the phase of tidying up the sound and graphics. Don't imagine that this is how the final game will look and sound.

During development I decided it was far more important to get the systems for the game in place and robust before spending any significant time on polishing graphics or sound. I polished the gameplay and backend code first. I had to be sure I could actually make the game I imagined before wasting time on those things. I also wanted to make sure the game was fun first.

Graphics and sound will steadily improve over time but gameplay will always have the highest priority.

Sounds good. The videos reminds me of Forsaken (a gem of my childhood that no one talks about anymore) and Decent so I have alot of hope for this one. The comment that I have about the video is that I do not like the lamps on the walls. I could see that killing immersion of being in a Tron like setting. Also the gun play is missing some "pop". I am not sure if its the sounds or the animation but somting about it I found lacking. Other than that I can tell by the video that this is something I can most certanly get into.

That's the other reason why the forums will be quiet for a while. There isn't much to say until you start playing the game. The good news is that I plan to have a new alpha build done this week. I'll likely test it for obvious problems over the weekend and if all is well I should be adding a few more alpha testers as soon as next week.

I am signed up but have nothing to say yet lol.

It's only going to be a small extention of the alpha at this stage but the forums are also not very busy yet so anyone who gets involved is going to have a really good chance of getting in.
