A new build of Pixel has been released. We're still working on getting it to all the distribution channels, but right now you can download a demo of it on our web site or buy it at IndieGameStand.

The new build should feel a lot more polished than the old one and has a lot of little touches -- including support for RGB keyboards (currently only Corsair's):

If you're going to PAX South, remember we'll be at booth #1551.

Having a game where color theory is a primary game mechanic creates some unique challenges. One of the most difficult has been creating a colorblind mode for those people that see the world differently. We have gone through several iterations through our development process and now it's time to iterate again.

Here is our latest idea for assisting in color recognition:

As you can see, the six primary colors (red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta) each are represented by a unique pattern. But the patterns aren't just different from each other, they also make sense. For example, the pattern for yellow is a combination of the pattern for red and the pattern for green. We also have a pattern for white that combines all the patterns.

Here is the weapon color wheel to help see how the patterns work together:

If your character is blue (horizontal lines) and you need to get through a magenta (crossed lines) barrier, than you need to add red (vertical lines) to your character.

So far we feel this has been the best system we've come up with so far. We know it still isn't perfect though (and there just might not be a perfect way of doing it), but we'll continue to keep working on it. We did make it so the texture files can be easily edited in case anyone else has any better ideas.

These changes should be released in a build sometime this week. If you give it a try, please let us know what you think.

If you're planning on attending PAX South or East next year then be sure to stop by the C63 Industries[c63.industries] booth to and play Pixel: ru²[areyousquared.com]. We'll be having a leaderboard competition for each day of both conventions and will be giving out a prize to the top player of each day.

We'll also be releasing a new build of Pixel within the next week or two. This new build runs at 120 fps (so everything feels smoother and more responsive). We'll also have some new weapons in the build, some that might have us rethinking the formula for the scoring system.

Also thank you to everyone that has voted for Pixel on Greenlight, as well as everyone that have supported us over the years. We're currently ranked within the top 100 of almost 2000 games! Once we're on Steam we'll be able to look into utilizing Steamworks for additional features.

We hope everyone has a happy New Year!

Now through June 12th, Pixel: ru² is 75% off at IndieGameStand! Purchase the alpha version now at IGS and get a Steam key when the game gets greenlit (and don't forget to ask your friends to vote if you want that to happen sooner)!
