I'm curious about your "longer" way and would like to see your recording. If making a video is too much trouble you can record a demo or illustrate your solution with screenshots. There's one alternative move I can see that would fit your description but it wouldn't really make the solution longer.

wow just watched the walk through you did quite a few things quicker than I was doing them. Well done... I was doing the yoyo trick from inside the second section on the second level. It still works from there, just takes a lot longer...

I've actually just worked it out. map just froze on me as I successfully did the laser catcher thing. Was doing the yoyo trick in the wrong way. Ill see if i can get through it long enough to record.

Sorry to hear that, hope you fix your problems. I don't think it's the map though, it's rather small with few elements and the solution isn't very long. I've just added a walkthrough if you want to take a peek.

Unfortunately cant solve it, theres something wrong with my game and it keeps crashing on long portal peti maps and this is a long one. Worked out how to get both cubes over to the other section just not how to get the cube on the button without it trapping you in section 2. I know it has something to do with the yoyo move and I know what a yoyo move is, just cant see how it helps with this one. Theres a lot going back and forth, which is ok if there was not a long distance. Good map, just long. If my game ever gets fixed might take another look at it on someone elses computer.

Well, I've tested it with a cube button and it was even worse, meaning the exploit was easier to do. Instead I made a different change to prevent that.

No idea, i didn't know i could bump objects even when they don't actually clip the portal before today either. If i had to guess i'd say it's much harder to find a spot where a cube stays still so it doesn't get kicked into the fizzler when you bring down the wall for the 2nd time if it was cube button.

Well, to make up for it, here's some sketchy portal usage to do the final part way harder than you'd do normally... also the reason why i lost my cubes in the first place :P

My mistake, apologies for the false alarm, must have messed up the cube repositioning with noclip after i burnt my 2 cubes in the inner room. I'll delete the other comment.

The way of how i getting the first cube into the room is unintended. I open blue portal and I stand underneath the cube drop, open orange portal on the button. The moment I pressed the button, the cube drop and I instantly open orange portal on the opposite room before the gate closed. Totally Unintended. Anyway this a good map especially last trick

Sounds like you got the first cube exactly as intended. I would be very surprised if there was another way.

Oh my. The hardest part for me was figuring out how to get that companion cube. I don't know if I got the first one up to the first button as you intended, but I got it. Squatting and catching was involved for that. Then, a lot (A LOT) of trial and error. And a lot of F6.

One day I will try to understand the meaning behind that sequence of words you wrote in spoiler tags. For now I go with "no need to change anything". Since your plan starts with the companion cube and the puzzle is almost solved at that point...

OK, I am so silly. Solved it. I accidentially read the spoiler of ken.roberts and 5 minutes later it made "klick". And I totally agree with him, I also did it so many times and always forget it.

Really nice map, I especially loved the franken cube. Some more of them and I'd be ready for asylum too.

I finished it, but I didn't solved it yet!
I found and unintended solution, but there is absolutely no need to change anything to prevent this.

1) Place the Companion cube on the button for the angled panel near the goo.
2) Bring the other cube to the upper room with the button to angle the other panel.
3) Create and endless loop killing the cube: Blue portal above the goo (plate with grating, but the cube will fall through), orange portal on the ground. Drop cube through orange portal and replace orange portal under the cube dropper. Quicksave!
4) First try: As soon as cube passes orangen portal press the button to angle panel and place orange portal at same place but with plate angled. Quickly shoot 2(!) blue portals on the left half (the side next to you) of the other angled panel. Now the cube flies to the button to open the gate and stays on it.

5) First quickload! Now you have to be very quick: Do point 4) but after placing the blue portals jump down and place an orange portal on the floor right before you hit the floor. You have to place the portal before the cube hits the button, but after it left his orange portal.

Here's a screenshot. No demo as I tried about 50 times.
Now I stop playing around and start thinking again! ;-)

Although I have used it many times before - for some reason I did not see the yo-yo move. It is the only way to get the cube onto the final Exit button without have to trap yourself into area 2.

Hallelujah. I've been playing this map for months. Today was my lucky day. Fantastic puzzle and all the kinks were worked out before I started so no glitches, (except in my head) I'm going to play through again after I've rested a bit. Thank you for this one.

Double unintended solution - in that it is not what I was trying to do either. My plan was to kill the weighted cube by moving it into the fizzler - then have it knock the companion cube onto the button when it dropped after respawning.

Tried to set up the collision some more, but could never get them to hit each other without the companion cube sliding onto the button on it's own. Too bad.

Oh for fuck's sake. I could manage to the very end but I would never ever ever ever be able to guess that move you posted last in the video. Well, maybe in a few more hours but I need some tome to live as well. :) It seem's I'm not thinking enough with portals. Really hard map and yet so small...

FINALLY! Ugh!

This chamber has been kicking my arse for months, now, but at last I'm through the exit door. The accomplishment was somewhat cheapened by the fact that I spoiled myself on how to solve the final problem, but honestly, I don't think it would have occurred to me in any reasonable time frame.

Big props on the precision of your design. There is nothing superfluous, nothing to mislead the player, and it's impossible to get irretrievably stuck or die.

Thanks Tonica for that one. Very humbling, but with enough thought, trial and error, and a few coffee breaks, I completed it.
For me, getting to the cube on top of the glass was hard. Harder still was at the end where figuring out how to get the cube onto the exit button successfully and still get back to the exit door room.
Great job on ths map. That was like a good job; work, but fun work :)

Much better without the strafe jump. The puzzle is just as hard, but doable by mere mortals. Added to my Favorite Hard Maps collection.

Nice creative thinking. I wasn't aware of that possibility when I made the map and I probably couldn't prevent that anyway. I'd say it's almost a valid alternative solution but of course it has to feel unintended. The last move was expected to be this:

My solution felt unintended. I balanced the companion cube on top of the normal cube right next to the exit door button, then respawned the normal cube so that the companion cube fell onto the button and opened the exit door.

I'd say the hardest part in the other map was realizing that you had to fling between the two rooms, grab the cube and then air strafe to the ledge near the exit - all in a continuous move. That part is completely gone.

@Inspirata, you probably are looking for a hint, but I'll answer your question anyway...
The map used to be harder because it was less clear what one could do. The new redesign makes things more clear and obvious. You no longer guess what you need to do, thus its easier. But the solution itself hasn't changed much. It did change, and it might actually be harder, but only slightly, as other parts have been made easier.

Damn, this is a really hard map.

I was stuck at 3 places.
1. To get the cube with me to open the door
2. To get both cubes to the other side
3. to exit

In the end, solving it gave enough satisfaction.

Well, respawning the cube would be legit any other time, but I was already lenient on the predecessor maps and allowed that, so I feel like insisting on the original solution for once. It's easy to execute, no skills involved, purely thinking with portals.

hm i got stucked because the elevator remained in the upper position while i was already on the floor again, thats something you cant solve, I know. I will restart and then quicksave in the final room today evening...

Being able to trap yourself is not cool... But I really don't see any other way to activate this button AND come back to the main room without respawning the cube like that X)

Yeah, one single laser field wouldn't help at all, I noticed that. Both fizzlers would need to go so you can't destroy the cube anymore. But that brings the possibility for the player to trap himself.
