For those who didn't see, Fantasy Grounds is now available for purchase on Steam. DLC will be released each week and priced at a 25% discount during each DLC's launch week.
Smiteworks  [author] May 10, 2014 @ 7:17pm
I'm working on a few things next week and this is hopefully one of the items I'll make good headway on. We need to get existing keys to activate without showing up as a Demo, work on the Mac and Linux ports and the work to implement the Workshop on Steam. I think there is one other item that is slipping my mind at the moment, but those are the main, critical items at the moment.
licktoren May 10, 2014 @ 4:00pm
so when will Custom content from players be available to share? there are a few other games on steam that have this function and i think FG would work great with it, granted they would need to be approved since they can't be premade adventures and such.
Smiteworks  [author] May 9, 2014 @ 5:27am
Any time a player connects, they download the GM's ruleset into memory without needing to make another purchase. We are only selling one version of Fantasy Grounds on Steam, which is $39.99 - but will have a 25% launch discount.

The built-in rulesets for 3.5E comes with included library modules full of monsters, items, spells, etc. from the D&D SRD.

If you have an Ultimate license, your players don't even need to buy FG.Currently there is no good way for us to post that for sale on Steam, so you'd have to pick that up on our store if you chose to and then install the Demo version on Steam, which will recognize that you have an Ultimate and run that instead.
Drakeskullnl May 9, 2014 @ 4:09am
Also, how customizable is this? can i build entire campaigns from scratch?

also SR5e, GURPS, DarkHeresy/DeathWatch and d20Modern support plz?
Drakeskullnl May 9, 2014 @ 4:06am
Rulesets for DnD 3.5 + all supplements implemented when?
also what USPs do you have as opposed to roll20?

convince me to spend 150 bucks.

also, when in possesion of the ultimate pack (and extra rulesets like call of cthulu), do players connecting for free then also get the ability to use the extra rulesets?
Troll Hammer May 6, 2014 @ 7:58pm
Thats whats up
GCGrunewald May 6, 2014 @ 8:42am
KaYoUx May 3, 2014 @ 4:38pm
yeah i was thinking abotu trying that. maybe i could find a another group to play online with. Then it would be advantageous! ;)
Smiteworks  [author] May 3, 2014 @ 4:37pm
There will be a 25% discount during launch week and periodic sales throughout the year. There is also a free event scheduled on from May 8 - 11 where you could try it completely for free and see how you like gaming with a group of complete strangers. :)
Smiteworks  [author] May 3, 2014 @ 4:37pm
$150 is a lot to put down at once and only makes sense when you are buying for your whole group and they won't pay for individual licenses - like you say - or in special situations where you have a couple different groups of players. If you like to GM and also want to spend some time on the player side, the $39 license lets you connect and play with some of the 27K+ users that already play Fantasy Grounds around the world. The games I end up playing with Fantasy Grounds are not the same people I game with in person. When I use FG in person, it is to help with my prep and running the game at the table, managing combat initative, etc. In that case, I don't even use the map sharing features and the players run their character sheets the old fashioned way. Just a thought.
KaYoUx May 3, 2014 @ 4:27pm
Sure, with the baby coming it would be useful, but knowing my players wouldn't buy the software, 150$ is too steep for me. We're quite casual about it I guess... *sigh* I still have that cool cyberpunk 2020 book lingering in my bookshelf :(
Smiteworks  [author] May 3, 2014 @ 4:25pm
KaYoUx. I still play in person games whenever possible, but I find FG useful for having additional game sessions with other players. I have found that groups formed solely online are just as enjoyable as the weekly face-to-face games I play in and you can play at times which would be good for face-to-face games. My wife doesn't mind if I play a game from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. if I am just connecting from my computer but she would mind if I had to leave the house to go out and play that late.
KaYoUx May 3, 2014 @ 4:18pm
I'm all for this kind of program, but since I'm living near all of my players, the price is way too steep. Sorry.
Smiteworks  [author] Apr 28, 2014 @ 2:42pm
I just uploaded a new video showcasing combat in the Pathfinder ruleset. Some of the features are shared across multiple rulesets, but most of the automation shown is specific to D&D and Pathfinder games.
Smiteworks  [author] Apr 19, 2014 @ 9:06pm
DrQuickbeam, we are actively working on it now. John is doing this work now that he has the most recent updates and patches taken care of and we will post updates once we get the first beta version up and running smoothly. We've just recently started, so we don't have a hard and fast date to share yet.
DrQuickbeam Apr 18, 2014 @ 5:38pm
Appreciate Smiteworks being so responsive! How is the Steam port coming?
Smiteworks  [author] Mar 23, 2014 @ 9:02pm
The plan is to give out keys to users through Steam if at all possible. From what I can tell, I think it will be.
spooki Mar 23, 2014 @ 8:38pm
Good day Smiteworks,

Our group of 3.5e players enjoy playing on your awesome program. We are actually playing on the Ultimate license from money we all pooled up so we just have some questions. When FG moves over to Steam, can our DM get a Steam Key for the Ultimate Edition? We're most likely going to repurchase the game for the Steam Edition, but we were just wondering if we could at least save money for one copy.
Smiteworks  [author] Mar 23, 2014 @ 7:40pm
I'm hoping it will be just another month or two.
kriegmarine Mar 17, 2014 @ 7:48am
Then weeks or months?
Smiteworks  [author] Mar 16, 2014 @ 8:50am
We are just now finishing up some of the projects we already had in the works and can begin getting things prepped for release on Steam afterward. Our big challenge is to make sure that players on Steam can interact with players outside of Steam easily.
Bendak Mar 12, 2014 @ 8:07am
My players are still waiting for Fantasy Grounds to hit Steam...we want to start the campaign soon, so I hope FG3 makes its way to Steam sooner rather than later.
ECG Notastoner Mar 11, 2014 @ 6:16pm
I hope this game s coming out soon or atleast by this summer would be cool.
Smiteworks  [author] Feb 27, 2014 @ 5:05am
To date, every version from 2004 to 2014 has been released for free to the community. Version 3.0 changed so many things that we considered charging a nominal upgrade fee, but didn't. It's possible that we might charge a small upgrade fee for a future version if it required significant development, but I thought a view of our history would be beneficial. We try to create a steady stream of add-ons that are optional purchases for content as a way to continually generate revenue while at the same time giving more stuff to the GM's and players.
kane Feb 26, 2014 @ 8:56am
Free upgrade? Awesome. Thanks for the reply, gonna buy soon :)
Smiteworks  [author] Feb 25, 2014 @ 4:16pm
kane, FG 3 is out now. We gave this out as a free upgrade to all current users and it adds a ton of new functionality and better support for additional ruleset creation. We are working with a third party developer who will be making a WYSIWYG graphical interface that allows people to point and click build a custom ruleset that gets all the functionality from our newest Core RPG ruleset and extends it and skins it to look and function how they want. There will be a Kickstarter from them this summer and we will support them in their efforts as much as possible.

For your other question, the Ultimate is for GM's that don't want their players to ever have to buy anything. They connect to anyone hosting a game with an Ultimate for free.
kane Feb 25, 2014 @ 7:52am
I'm a little bit confused. Is there Fantasy Grounds 3 ahead? Because I am planning to buy it, but if newer version comes out, I'll wait.

And another question: Obtaining the Ultimate License means my players can just download, install FG without registering and play?
Smiteworks  [author] Feb 20, 2014 @ 3:27pm
Stardog, we completely understand and appreciate the feedback. We are very excited to be included on Steam. I am also a Steam customer, although I keep all my personal purchases on a separate account -- with the exception of one mistaken purchase that I had to buy twice. ;)
Mighty Joe Feb 20, 2014 @ 6:43am
The transition to Steam doesn't have to be painful, but it should be treated with care because there is a culture here that's just as important to your business as your homesite culture. A lot of people might not understand what this is or why it's important that it be included on Steam, but that doesn't mean that the move should be made a lesser priority. Other games greenlit at the same time as this have already been released, and you have fans here who are waiting to make that purchase. I intend to be among the first of those who do so. I know there's a lot of work to be done, but we are looking forward to being included in your customer base.

Some might think that we could just buy through your homesite, but I don't like spreading my credit card numbers around in too many databases. I'm not alone when I say that. Sure, it's just a matter of time before Steam is truly compromised, but fewer security risks means that I'm delaying the inevitable. Please understand this.
Mighty Joe Feb 20, 2014 @ 6:35am
Smiteworks, thanks for the update. I'm sorry to hear that. I understand, but it's unfortunate for those of us waiting for this release. I hope that it's sooner rather than later.
Light Feb 19, 2014 @ 11:55pm
Looks like the servers are down right now?
Smiteworks  [author] Feb 19, 2014 @ 5:19pm
Stardog, we do not yet have a release schedule. We were ready to work on the Steam conversion early in the greenlight process when things looked promising, but since it dragged on longer than expected, we began work on another large release (version 3.0) We've released v3.0 and have been inundated with subsequent, but very important follow-up releases. Those changes have mostly stabilized and we are not planning to introduce any new major features prior to releasing for Steam. We have to catch up our documentation, and then Steam will be the very next step for release.

The initial release will be relatively light on Steam features and subsequent releases will begin improving upon and enabling additional release features.
Mighty Joe Feb 19, 2014 @ 2:38am
Okay... I'm not sure if the guy was being snarky, but I just asked over at the dev site if there was any word on a release date and was told by Ruien (sp?) that it could be a very long time. That's too bad. Good luck, guys. Hope you make it on Steam after all. I've been dying to try this out, but I guess I was expecting too much.
Mighty Joe Feb 15, 2014 @ 10:43am
looking looking looking......

Where is Fantasy Grounds on Steam?
..I.. Feb 12, 2014 @ 6:38pm
For those GM out there Hit me if need a other player =)
velsevur Feb 12, 2014 @ 12:03am
Keep previous post.
Bendak Feb 11, 2014 @ 6:45am
Do we have any better timeline for when Fantasy Grounds will make it to Steam? I've got a full group of players waiting to buy the program.
Smiteworks  [author] Jan 11, 2014 @ 10:21am
siferion is correct, sorry for the omission. This is one of the built-in rulesets that are supported and it comes with a bunch of content from the Open Gaming License. Stats for non-OGL monsters would still need to be entered -- such as Mind Flayers and Beholders.
siferion Jan 5, 2014 @ 8:45pm
There is 3.5e D&D HaikenEdge (and Pathfinder) they just missed it out of the list. (may saying it has 3.5e support is like a television box telling you it features a remote control!!) ;)
HaikenEdge Jan 5, 2014 @ 10:17am
Will there be D&D 3.5 support? I'm seeing AD&D (which I think is 2E) and 4E, and am curious is 3.5E will get support.
Stoltverd Dec 31, 2013 @ 8:12pm
Like an update? Or like a DLC? Sorry for bothering you so much!
Happy new year by the way! It's just 11:10 PM here but when you read this it surely be new year hahaha
Smiteworks  [author] Dec 31, 2013 @ 6:19pm
It will most likely be an upgrade to the existing version.
Stoltverd Dec 23, 2013 @ 6:29pm
You say also. Im guessing that there will be 2 separate versions of fantasy grounds then?
Smiteworks  [author] Dec 23, 2013 @ 3:05pm
Stoltverd, you heard correctly. It will also be on Steam.
Stoltverd Dec 22, 2013 @ 10:29am
I heard you planned to move to Unity.
Is that true?
Will that be on steam?
Smiteworks  [author] Dec 21, 2013 @ 9:17pm
We just released version 3.0 which was in development and beta for some time. Now that it is rolled out, we'll stand by on development for another week or two to cover any patches for things missed in Beta. We expect to begin re-coding for Steam compatibility starting in January and will release updates as we progress. We are shooting for Q1 2014. I was hopeful it would be sooner, but there are some challenges with how our licensing and networking system will work within Steam that we didn't originally plan for. Needless to say, we want to get up and running on Steam as quickly as possible with our core software and all of our add-ons.
Stoltverd Dec 20, 2013 @ 6:48am
Still waiting it here
Dragon Dec 14, 2013 @ 7:38am
Is there any approximate date of release?
