I would love to get an early build to make a video review for it if possible.

Gah, if you keep appreciating my advice, I'm going to keep giving it. Though I will have to start charging eventually. : p
JanKavan  [autor] 7 nov., 2013 @ 2:21am
Thank you! Those are some good advices. We plan to do something with the game after the J.U.L.I.A., because it took us quite some time and it would be pitty to just throw it away. At least people love the soundtrack. :P :)

I swear, I get more fun talking about the marketing and design for games than actually playing them any more. Hope I haven't annoyed you too much. I'll give you the short and sweet advice on this title, and get out of your hair.

Lemmings and Dungeon Keeper references can be awesome for piquing the interest of classic gamers and journalists. Use the differentiated title for the game. The difficulty curve needs a good smoothing like a few of the reviews said, with dips as new mechanics or higher complexity are introduced. Casual gamers like to get medals just as much as the classic gamers do. You have more story in the trailer than in the game, so far. An update is a good way to demonstrate you're still working to improve a game, even as you've movded on to other projects. If the mainstream games press isn't biting, it's time to look at other folks with lots of eyeballs on them, like Let's Players.
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 6:04pm
Then try googling just Guide Them To Safety.
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:20pm
Look up J.U.L.I.A. on the internet. Then look up Vampires.
JanKavan  [autor] 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:18pm
Yes. That's the problem. None of the metacritic-embraced sites picked that up. And it's already one year since we've released this game... With J.U.L.I.A. Enhanced Edition I had to do 1/1000 of the work and not only it's covered but we're already greenlit even if the game will come out next year. There's something I am clearly missing! But anyway I will always be better at making games than to understand how these things work.
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:15pm
And none showing up on Metacritic yet.
JanKavan  [autor] 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:13pm
I've sent around 130 personalized emails with review codes (for all platforms). So far we have 7 (positive) reviews.
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:12pm
How many writers have gotten review codes so far?
JanKavan  [autor] 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:10pm
Yes. We have blog, web, fb and twitter active. And re. casual, the game offers for both casual (easy mode completion) and hardcore gamers (gold medals and achievements) alike. We were just three persons doing this game so very easy to spot the culprit (me) :D
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:07pm
Do you have a blog for your studio, or a particularly active Twitter feed?
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:06pm
I'll put that another way. Whose bright idea is it to make a stylish vampire lemming dungeon keeper in reverse, and try to call it casual?
JanKavan  [autor] 4 nov., 2013 @ 4:05pm
We are almost neglected by the press. Even after many presenattions ovwer at GamesCom Europe only a handful of press covered us (all of them giving us exceptionally high mark). We are part of 100% indie under Chillingo (our last hope), we are on Desura and we did some trailers, many press releases etc. The game is also available through Phoenix Online Store and we've been approved by Famigo as family friendly game with a nice recommendation. Well... :)
desolation0 4 nov., 2013 @ 3:56pm
What other marketing have you done so far?
JanKavan  [autor] 4 nov., 2013 @ 3:52pm
LOL. We are just struggling with Vampires. While the vast majority who actually played the game loved it, I don't really know why we can't break through. Maybe it's just hard to explain that it's not just another puzzle game out there. :)
desolation0 3 nov., 2013 @ 5:19pm
I now have a bit of a man crush on you for taking the random advice of a stranger so well. :P
JanKavan  [autor] 3 nov., 2013 @ 4:37pm
That's actually a nice comment, thank you. I will probably adjust the name.
desolation0 3 nov., 2013 @ 2:49pm
Kind of shooting yourself in the foot a bit with the different names on the different platforms. "Vampires: Guide Them to Safety!" the Desura title is more descriptive and helps differentiate from the variety of other zombie/vampire/chupacabras games out there. Quite enjoyed the bit I played of it, so far.

pretty cool game
Distasteful 3 sept., 2013 @ 5:23am
While its much more of a kids game than anything else, it has potential. Offering a DRM free version of the game is nice, but that's really not that uncommon for a indie developer to do. Perhaps open your source code up to let people get a look at the game. Good job on the demo though.

@Naze: they just confirmed that we will get Steam keys once the game got greenlit. "Also in case we are greenlit you will get steam key for vampires if you get them from our store."

its like limmings but more of a challenge !!! ah heck ya !!
Naze 8 mart., 2013 @ 12:24pm
Vampires! reminds me of small game "Incredible Pipeline" - title which I truly enjoyed long time ago (screenshot - http://i.imgur.com/birHqRA.jpg , maybe that's the one McTarget was pointing at ) - looks like same tile mechanics with added vampires and other stuff, count me in if it hits Steam. I'd gladly buy it even now from the website if there was a confirmation of getting steam key when greenlit - I like keeping my games in one place. Cheers and godspeed.
blckruc47 14 feb., 2013 @ 3:11pm
Great concept. Count me in.
ch3burashka 30 ian., 2013 @ 8:02am
Looks crazy - not at all what the generic name 'Vampires!' implies. I'd get it.

looks good to me :)

JanKavan  [autor] 21 ian., 2013 @ 8:00am
Moving McTarget, thanks! That cleared it up. Basically - we offer playable demo from the very beginning of the greenlight (please check the greenlight text above) as well as full version for PC, Mac, iOS and Android is readily available. While we don't have luck yet with Steam, the game is out already. If you feel like it, check the demo and let me know how you liked it!
Moving McTarget 20 ian., 2013 @ 4:54pm
Jan, apologies for using the term "rip" (not "rip off") when describing your game. The comment was not intended to be derogatory in nature. Perhaps "likeness" may have been a more suitable term to use.
I for one prefer to base my opinions on actually playing a game through and providing a more educated opinion on the game in its entirety. However, Greenlight prevents us from actually doing this (Unless the developer has a demo available elsewhere). So for a majority of the developers/authors on Greenlight will have their games reviewed, praised, criticised or flamed based entirely on a couple of screenshots, a video or 2 and the authors description. Something that it seems that both the community and developers alike should keep in mind.
