I find it funny when people assume that point and click adventures aren't worth n years of development. These games can take just as much time, if not way more, than, say, a survival horror.

We're developing Asylum for fans of adventure games, and I'm pretty sure fans of Scratches wouldn't have it other way :)

Cant wait for this! Scratches was one of my all time favs. Thank you for continuing to make old school point and click horror adventure games. There are still people out there who still enjoy them as they once were.

Yes, I'm aware of the impending demise of Greenlight (which is a shame, I *truly* liked this platform as a neat discovery tool).

I already have a proper Asylum store page nearly ready to go live, with updated screenshots, videos, forum, etc. The plan is to launch it after GDC in March and of course I'll post the announcement here, so stay tuned :)

Hello Agustin. I don't know if you and the team have heard about Valve planning to close and replace Steam Greenlight sometime this Spring. Are there any plans to move Asylum to a more secure space since it has already been Greenlit?

Hey there, Ashley. Thanks, and happy new year to you as well! Project is doing fine, as always we post the most updates in our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Senscape/) or forums (https://talk.senscape.io).

We're very close to having a sizable chunk of the game fully playable in near-final state, allowing you explore the asylum at length, solve puzzles, and be real scared. This version might make it to press sites for eventual preview articles. I can't give you a solid date for the actual release yet, I'm sorry, but the plan is to have a working beta in the few coming months. As soon as we reach that point, we'll evaluate how much work there's left to do and decide the best course of action. There's still TONS of stuff we want to include in Asylum, but we may have to spend some time in the cutting room. Right now it's already three times the size of Scratches, though, so you'll stay a long time in this place.

In any case, we're on our way to having a finished game. Promise!

No, no. That's no probs. I understand it's hard to put a time on these things. That's why to kinda measure it I asked if it's close to being finished or not yet. But so long as we are aware, then that's fine. I'm just happy you's regularly nip in here to have a chat, and reassure us you's are still working away and aren't deceased lol.

@Skarktrol, we're still developing the game. Sorry it's taking so darn long, we're pushing our resources (and our sanity) to their limits with this project, but we're confident, as always, that the wait will be worth it. Sorry as well for the radio silence -- we're still working on the sizable update I mentioned earlier that will feature a new gameplay video, full status report, and discussion of a tentative release date.

So yes, Asylum is very much going; we're working super hard to deliver the memorable game we promised, and double-extra-yes, it's 100% Lovecraftian through and through. No jump scares, complex, multilayered story, and a truly terrifying experience. More as soon as possible!

@Ew_ Why do you say the post hasn't been updated since 2013? We just happen to release new materials from Asylum a few months ago, with many more updates on Twitter and Facebook.

I'm getting ready for a "comeback" of sorts and preparing a livestream with new gameplay and announcements. Admittedly, the last gameplay video is a few years old, but the progress we've achieved since then is striking. Folks should be impressed with what we're about to show!

@dvz' If you even played scratches to begin with, you wouldn't compare this game with amnesia... This just shows how clueless you are. Layers of fear is out, sure, that's awesome! So what? What that has to do with anything? The bigger the pool of quality games the better! Just because one game is out, doesn't mean that other games should be forgotten or ignored, specially when they both belong to different genres

I am so excited for this game to be published. If the teaser is any indication, this is exactly what I've been waiting for. I'm confused by the comments critisizing that other horror games have already been made (basically). Think if no one made another vampire movie, because one had already been made. Only one cartoony adventure game etc.

Some games do seem to have ripped off other games, with nothing particularly original to add of their own, I agree, but this most definitely doesn't seem like one of them. It seems like someone sat down and used their own imagination and wants to think something up, completely from scratch. This game to me seems to be incredibly inspired. Just as you can tell if a story was written from inspiration or simply from a good idea and the ability to execute it.

Take the time you need! Better to ensure a result that does the work and story justice, than rush it and compromise your creative integrity!

I'm not sure why this need to compare Asylum to Outlast, Amnesia, Layers of Fear et al. This isn't a race. We're not trying to compete against other titles. We have a thrilling and complex story for Asylum, we have a created a moody, believable game world and we're striving to provide an experience that feels unlike any other. Most importantly, an experience that has a lasting appeal -- a game that stays with you for a long time to come. That's what we're looking to achieve. Asylum won't be any better or worse because you played "successful horror game A, B or C". Such comparisons are baffling.

For the record, and coming from someone who loves and beta tested Amnesia: Asylum has *nothing* to do with Amnesia. I haven't played Layers of Fear either but heard good things of it -- still, not the same kind of game as Asylum. This is NOT a survival horror. Asylum is a good old fashioned adventure game.

Anyway, we're doing everything we can to release the game this year. Expect news soon.

it will be ~$30 ... we wait already 4 years, so I can also wait another 2-3 years till it will be sold for less then $5 dollars; Graphics are also not up-to-date, the graphics are not special anymore;
I dont see a difference between this game and Amnesia... explore/horror... just different story;
and all developer say: estimated gameplay is around 15 hrs... then we suddenly see: its just 2-4 hours :P...
and btw: Layers of Fear is out :P, so who cares about this game...

Regarding the pricing, Asylum can't really be compared with titles like Outlast and Amnesia -- they're different games with different goals. Heck, they're different genres! So it's not like we'd be trying to "fool customers" if we go with the $30 price tag. Considering the type of game, production values, and content offered in Asylum (with no less than 12-5 hours of gameplay estimated), it would be a fair price.

Then again, price in games is still the subject of heated discussion. Recently hundreds of players criticized The Witness with its $40 price tag and, after investing ~30 hours myself in the game, I think they're out of their minds. It's worth every penny for sure, and then some.

Anyway, I don't think we'll hit $30.
