So I have a question, I'll be buying this in a bit regardless, since it looks interesting. But my question is, should I hold off playing it till it's further developed, or is there enough content already to enjoy the game? I've been burned before by buying early acces, and getting a game that had hardly any content. I don't mind backing by purchasing early acces, but if there's not a lot of content yet, I'd prefer to wait till it's more fleshed out :)
[SOT]Plasson 30 May 2013 @ 1:45pm
hey.. It's still May 30th, and it's available in Europe!.

Now should I get my 6 hours of sleep before work, or try the game... :P
saltire1307 30 May 2013 @ 1:17pm
Hey I'm really excited about this and started downloading the game. Just for reference where do i post bugs, glitches or just general suggestions? I cant seem to find the specific forum discussion thread for this on steam. Thanks.
Bostian 30 May 2013 @ 11:22am
I've been refreshing the page like a mad man, like I'm expecting it to just pop up early. Shoving money at my screen doesn't work either :(

Ultima! Hang in there bud! I know how you feel but we have to pull through this! We have to stay calm and not panic! We can do this! We ca-OhgodIcan'tdothis. I'm going to run around in circles for an hour now. Should be released by then.
MSPaint 30 May 2013 @ 11:18am
ARGH! I've been waiting for a game like this for 8 years!!! And now it's so close! I'm *this* excited!
zanzibar_hero 30 May 2013 @ 7:56am
Looks like a faster paced Settlers clone. which is not a bad thing :) I'll probably purchase the game...

Being an indie developer it's really hard balancing all the factors, and ultimately we needed to make a decision to either do a kickstarter or Early Access; we chose the latter. We're not publisher backed, instead we're risking our savings on something we believe in. Not everyone will share that belief, nor do we expect them to. But we hope players will want to get involved during Early Access and feel part of a community that directly influences the game's development. Being an indie developer is rarely a perfect world; it's fraught with worry, compromise and decision-making often in the dark. But we love it, and we hope you'll love what Folk Tale becomes with your support. The greater that support, the bigger and better Folk Tale becomes.

With the little content now, people will see that price tag and be turned away. Some may come back when there is significant content updates, but others will be turned away for good. Sure, many people visiting this game's Greenlight page will state they are happy to pay $20 or more; the developers should also be taking into account the greater majority who will first see this game when it appears in the new releases section.

[Had to split that into two as there's a 1000 character limit for posts]

"if someone on Steam buys it on early alpha and has a problem with the lack of content, that's their problem." -- While I agree, this is Steam. Just look at other forums to see that people will demand refunds regardless of whether the game is alpha, beta, or whatever. While it should be only their problem, it also creates negative press in that that person then tells others about their experience and before you know it, potential buyers are turned away due to someone else's misunderstanding.

"$20 isn't just for a little tutorial, in the long run. You're paying for the ENTIRE game”" -- Even so, look at the pricing model for MineCraft. When that had very little content it was far cheaper (around $10 initially increasing in price with each significant update), even though you also (eventually) get access to the full game. It's all about being an early adopter and taking an initial risk as there’s never a guarantee that the game will be released or, for that matter, be the same game.
Bostian 29 May 2013 @ 7:52pm
@Chika Sorry for butting in on your conversation, but I'm not sure you're looking at the big picture. To start, if someone on Steam buys it on early alpha and has a problem with the lack of content, that's their problem. They're clearly stated that as it's in early alpha, the content is limited to a linear tutorial. It's not their fault if someone can't read that.

And $20 isn't just for a little tutorial, in the long run. You're paying for the ENTIRE game game, the chance to play early, and the chance to help the game grow by following updates and submitting feedback. It's pretty much like pre-ordering a game at a cheaper price before it's actually released, except we get to play bits and pieces along the way to release day.

what time EST is the north amrican release going to be

"If you ignore all of the enjoyment of watching and listening to your peasants go about their lives and don't take time to explore, preferring to rush things, 1-2 hours on first play through on a perfect first-run - but that's not really what Folk Tale is about."

I'm not sure you understand where you are. This is Steam. I can guarantee you, that someone will buy this, discover there's very little content and will immediately demand a refund. I'm just concerned as to whether you should be releasing yet if you have so little content with that price tag.

$20 sounds okay for when the sandbox mode is added, but without it, I think you may be asking too much. I'd really hope you would consider dropping the price a little more for the period where there is no sandbox mode.

Considering a sick day Friday... Also, question: Will women be able to fill all the roles/jobs in the game? I really would like to see women soldiers and mages and such, just as there are men. I would be very happy if this was in development as well.
dlsurber2000 29 May 2013 @ 3:50pm
For myself,i would pay more than 20.00 for a good game especially one that seems as well rounded and diferent aspects a this one.If everything i have been reading and watching of this game for the last year,i think this game is worth a good amount.I hope they have a good amount of followers to keep adrift. Can't wait to support a good fun game.So i will be supporting games foundry for this one.
Games Foundry  [yaratıcı] 29 May 2013 @ 1:09pm
@Feenster We read every comment as development of Folk Tale is heavily influenced by community feedback.

@Chika That's hard to say as everyone's pace and play style varies. If you ignore all of the enjoyment of watching and listening to your peasants go about their lives and don't take time to explore, preferring to rush things, 1-2 hours on first play through on a perfect first-run - but that's not really what Folk Tale is about. With Early Access you get the full game at a discount price, and can keep checking in every few months to enjoy the new content that's been added discovering the game all over again. We appreciate everyone's opinion of value differs, and we don't expect it to be a day one purchase for everyone. But if you like the idea behind Folk Tale, please keep popping back and hopefully we can convince you to support the game.
stephensof 29 May 2013 @ 12:43pm
wonder what time it will come out hoping midnight tonight
Chika Ogiue 29 May 2013 @ 10:08am
"Folk Tale in its current form is a linear mini-campaign tutorial introducing gameplay concepts that we plan to include in the final game." -- How much actual gameplay is in that for one play through? If that's all that's in the game at present, I can't help but feel that $20 is too much; especially given the current exchange rate here in Japan.
Attraguss 29 May 2013 @ 10:01am
@ashurakain. 31'st of May.
ashurakain 29 May 2013 @ 6:40am
sooo... when i can i buy this on steam?
aries-rising 28 May 2013 @ 11:53pm
Again, please take my money
Bostian 28 May 2013 @ 7:50pm
I have to say, I have a lot of hope for this game, simply because of how much the dev team obviously cares and listens to it's community. Only two more days into early access, and I couldn't be more excited! (well, until release day that is)
Naga's Heir 28 May 2013 @ 6:01pm
$19.99 is well under what I'm willing to pay for early access, so this is wonderful news. :D The friend I asked for, however, lives in Australia, meaning the price could be a bit more for her. She'll probably get it, though, as she's very interested and the early access price is still less than a full price AUS game.
