Go to the .vmt in your tf/materials/models/player/item/class/hatname and open it with vtf edit.Copy and past this in your code

"$translucent" "1"
"$additive" "1"

Save the vmt and the next time you check your model it should be this clear, like jarate.

Awesome! Now make it reflective by putting this in your .vmt code $envmap "env_cubemap". You don't have to but it would make it look better. Oh can you check out the new hat I made I put some work on it.

Well I've got a version thats translucent but in game its kinda derp. Like tf2 doesn't know exactly what to do with it so part of it is translucent and some of it isnt. Its wierd

You should use gimp or photoshop to make the texture transparent and give it a cartoon shader. Oh one thing, if you are using blender get the smd export plugin so that it gives the hat a cartoon shading. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Blender_SMD_Tools
