Nice map. Not too hard and lots of fun!

i pretty much agree with | \_/ () you sould really kill the funnel and portal bumping possibility, plus, i escaped from the rattmann den down to the exit, and was trapped, maybe put an "around the corner" surface over there or a timed flip pannel. cause it's very easy to get trapped over there apparently, "Test subject you're doing great, puzzle could use some work though". (I know that's not right, but im trying to get the part when he says the puzzle could use some work) 7/10

Funnel unneeded. I didn't know what activated the stairs so I overthought the puzzle because I ignored it until I noticed something different. Disable rail oscillate. Otherwise OK puzzle.

Good and polished chamber: perfect architecture, good puzzle design. The use of elements and portals is well merged. Thank you!

Nice and simple, well done. Design 7/10 Difficulty 2/10

great map but the funel is useless. there are enough portalable surfaces to fling yourself and beat the map without using it (without glitches like reportaling or portal-bumping). it's even stopping the player from solving the map properly, because if you point it at the exit, you'll get there without completing the lazer challenge...and you'll be stuck there, because the door isn't opening. so yeah - remove the funel.
you can also place some black walls around the fizzler to avoid portal bumping (I didn't use portal-bumping though).
the ratman den was nice. I'm giving it a thumbs up.

Enjoyable, thumbs up, but I found it disappointingly easy compared to the Dilapidation series.

good map.
luckily I went to hidden room 1st.
brought radio back, to listen to while doing puzzle.
it stops playing music after a bit ?
did puzzle after making a mistake & re-starting. (2nd attempt)
but good puzzle & liked the sign on the door in the hidden room :)
shame it was locked. as glados's murder spree, could have been avoided :)
please try a map from my workshop:

Great puzzle. Much easier than your other maps (especially your dlipa....something series) I'd say this is easy/medium difficulty. Or I'm just so used to your hard maps... dunno :P hmm no... this really is easy/medium difficulty.

Couple of places I recommend are the hammer wiki, thinking with portals forum and rocketrascal34 on youtube, very good general hammer tutorials. Ive found the Hammer community to be very friendly and helpful rather than just "omfg noob mapper" xD So dont be afraid to ask anyone if you are stuck. But yea I just thought what the heck, might as well just download the tools and see what I can do. But even adding custom stuff doesnt seem too bad if you want to make really unique levels with new testing mechanics. Look forward to seeing what you come up with ^_^

Yeah, I have limited knowledge of vscripting myself. C type languages are the ones I'm most knowledgeable about, though even that is limited. But if you say that I can build better maps by using default stuff, then that is worth a shot. Thanks.
LoneWolf2056  [author] Oct 24, 2012 @ 6:56am
Well yes to both, it has tons more flexibility in making levels exactly how you envision them in your head, but it is more time consuming, depending on how much detail you want. Ive only been learning for a few months and i'm not fantastic at it but I dont think i'm too bad xD. Depending on what you want to do it might not be complicated, I mean I have no clue about messing about with vscripting and stuff, but using all default entities is simple and still gives you a ton more flexibility than pti, not saying you cant make interesting maps in PTI, but you can do more cool stuff. I am still learning tons, every map I push myself to try new stuff that i dont even know how to, never tried making a collapsing catwalk and roof for or even the overgrown style, the tube ride etc. A lot of messing about is involved. Just mess about and get a feel for using it and see where it goes from there. Good Luck :p

Man everytime I hear about hammer it's a two way street. On one end I've heard it has waaaay more flexibility, which is what I want. On the other I heard it's complicated to learn. *sigh* any advice to offer?
LoneWolf2056  [author] Oct 23, 2012 @ 2:09pm
@machmanx yea I assumed people would quicksave so they wouldnt have to redo stuff, editing pti maps in hammer was not fun cause it builds your map out of 128x128x128 cubes, which is why I ditched it to try using only hammer in my later maps.

nice test
machmanx Oct 22, 2012 @ 10:05am
This was easy, though I did get stuck for a minute until I realized there was a gravity beam. One thing I didn't like was how the secret room was setup. If you shoot a portal into the secret from the exit side and are on the pedastal, you get stuck and have to restart, especially if you didn't save. If you get into the secret room then you have to redo most of the puzzle to get your portal on the other side of the fizzler. Secret rooms are supposed to be an added bonus, not make you redo your work.
Le Petit Mort Oct 11, 2012 @ 10:06am
Pros:
• Displays a couple interesting, if basic, puzzle mechanics;
• 'Special effect' intro is neat;

Cons:
• Aesthetic is a bit of a mishmash with its use of black and white panels;
• Funnel seems underdeveloped;

Thoughts:
Harmless
Not extraordinary, but fun; a great starting place for newcomers to learn the ropes.

elfarmerino Thanks, I think I kinda have it fixed now, still pretty new to mapping.
elfarmerino Jun 19, 2012 @ 12:33am
Liked it. At the end it just says 'Test Complete - Restarting'. You might want to check the settings in your entrance/exit instances.
