The Consuming Shadow is a good game.

hi, i think The Consuming Shadow looks fantastic. I love horror games. Now i´m finishing the working in other game and it would be great to cooperate with such a promising team. Wow great! And bring Hatfall too!

Yahtzee, do you guys need music for this game? I hate to be the douche that comments on multiple greenlight pages, but I'm a huge fan of both zero punctuation and Mogworld, and I feel like this game would benefit from some music, even if it was minimalistic. A game I did the entire soundtrack for recently got on steam if you want a reference.

I also know you guys already technically released this on other platforms, but maybe the steam version could have some subtle music going on. Let me know if I don't sound like an ass.

I don't get the newgrounds graphics complaint i'd say it's functional and that's all i needs to be i think the actual mechanics outshine graphical fidelity.

Yahtzee Croshaw has accomplished a feeling I love. The feeling of mastery. You die. You die again. You die about 4 times and then something clicks and you win! Then more unlocks and the game gets a little more interesting...

I LOVE THAT FEELING. It tastes like JUST1C3. and CH3RRY >:D
Please don't let that little disgression make this review any less serious. I love this game. It is all the writing of a good short story (which by the way, they have one unlocked by collectables.) and every game is tense and genuinely fucking scary the first time you see a monster. Good job Yahtzee. You kicked this one out of the park.

@MrBuzzKill: Don't forget: Yes, it's inspired by Eternal Darkness.
reversespectrum Aug 26, 2015 @ 12:54am
can't wait.
grauekatze Aug 25, 2015 @ 9:17am
Really dig the game. Looking forward to seeing it on steam.
MrBuzzKill Aug 25, 2015 @ 8:17am
I wish people would stop repeating themselves.
Yes yahtzee is bad at graphics.
Yes its lovecraftian inspired.
and Yes its inspired by FTL aswell.
Its not a ripoff of any of these, if anything thats inspired by something else would be a ripoff you'd have 0 games to play right now. The game looks good and its very detailed in terms of the gameplay. I don't see why bad graphics should hold anyone back... Works well and looks like a fun game.
tcteter Aug 17, 2015 @ 7:17pm
Game is so good and now I can track how many hours I burn trolling through England banishing Chzo
Espancador de Gente Chata Aug 17, 2015 @ 11:59am
This game feels so lovecraftian... Dunno why. :b
KeirosDragon Aug 11, 2015 @ 10:51pm
IMO, the graphics could use a bit more tweaking as it looks like something you'd see at Newgrounds. Other than that, the game itself is really interesting and offers a lot of replayability.
rubidium85 Aug 7, 2015 @ 4:13pm
Fucking love this game. This feels like the spiritual sequel to eternal darkness.
Vile_Murde Aug 7, 2015 @ 10:21am
This game is amazing. It gives you good challenge with its simple controls and rather unforgiving random events if you dont have right items. Sure, you can get some rewards without items and skip some alltogether, but i had like 1/20 chance to get money or sanity.... but 12/20 i just got bleeding (made skipping random events almost necessity). Its great, that in dungeons (even if it feels kinda cheap) how easily you get status effects EVEN if you have items to prevent those effects (im looking at you, tranquilizer pills). And just wanted to say: I like these graphics.
põhjamaade boi Aug 6, 2015 @ 7:29am
I like the moral choice at the end where you can become buddy-buddy with the consuming shadow.
Mohring Aug 6, 2015 @ 6:53am
Amazing. Hope this game comes out. Its excatly what a horror game needs, it needs to twist your brain and have loads of jumpscares. Good work!
Duskie Aug 6, 2015 @ 6:09am
This game is exactly what I want in a horror game, instead of shitty jumpscares it gives the feeling of messing with your head.
biforbofur Aug 6, 2015 @ 5:36am
This is FTL improved in every way
Anathaerine Aug 6, 2015 @ 12:07am
You're Yahtzee and you're Jim Sterling approved. So yeah.
Oh, there's also the fact that the game is good, yeah, that too
diegzumillo Aug 5, 2015 @ 11:15pm
Awesome game. Good thing we can already buy and play it, because this greenlight is taking longer than it should.
Raves Aug 5, 2015 @ 9:30pm
Considering half the stuff that is available on Steam - all the Z clones, the unfinished scams, the horribly buggy first-person Slenderlikes - it'd be criminal not to let a gem like this onto the storefront.

Personally, I like to think of it as the unofficial sequel to Eternal Darkness ^__^
Chara the Explorer Aug 5, 2015 @ 9:03pm
Played a Beta version. Can't wait to try this out later.
Muad'Dib Aug 5, 2015 @ 8:42pm
Yahtzee is the man, and this is one of the best indie games I've played in a long time. Get this on Steam, I cannot recommend The Consuming Shadow enough.
Ocho [Trading] Aug 5, 2015 @ 6:30pm
This actually looks pretty good! The only thing I dislike is the similarity to some browser games I've seen.

Lovecraftian horror at it's finest.
The Onion Aug 5, 2015 @ 11:33am
I've been following Yahtzee's game reviews and Extra Punctuation articles for years now, and have found his commentary on video games truly insightful and interesting (as well as snort-laugh-inducingly funny at times) - they've most definitely shaped the way I think about and approach video games as an art form in a country where most people don't appreciate that that's what they are. Having read Yahtzee's strong opinions on video game design (as well as a few of his designs for hypothetical games too), I've often wondered to myself what the result would be if he were to make a game (a new one, anyway, that he doesn't half look down on as something an inexperienced version of himself designed), and this seems to be exactly what I've been waiting for for a while. I've played the demo and was certainly intrigued and cannot wait to see what the fully fleshed out version is like. Well done on finally completing it, Yahtzee.

demonflowers Aug 5, 2015 @ 10:04am
I'm going to be honest: I've already bought this game off the Humble Store. I've played it a bit already and I love it. The only real issue I can think of is the graphics. They didn't bother me, but they are very simple; art is not Yahtzee's strong point. What he excels at is storytelling and atmosphere. If you are a person who loves story focused games, this is the game for you.
Peldin Aug 5, 2015 @ 5:25am
Really hate horror in general, but love your stuff either way so gonna upvote this, and after watching the ego review, I really fell for it as a concept. Also, when is Spunk Notwithstanding coming out? *gigglegiggle*

Good work Yahtzee :D
Eraser Aug 5, 2015 @ 1:54am
Great game! Played a few playthroughs and very much like it. The atmosphere is brilliant and dark, the writing great. Don´t be fooled by the graphics....this game is great!
Enjoy_Ham Aug 5, 2015 @ 12:19am
Way to go, Yahtzee! You've finally finished it! And it even looks like something I would play
NavyMarineBlues Aug 4, 2015 @ 8:36pm
The atmosphere and replay aspects are really great.
Rip Rippington Aug 4, 2015 @ 3:19pm
BRING IT OUT STEAM!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adrenochrome Aug 4, 2015 @ 2:12pm
The game is great fun, and is more than worthy of having a Steam release. Congratulations, Yahtzee, on your Lovecraftian success! -- Dr. Géza Reilly

It looks like a cool game but you shoudl work on the graphics a bit

This looks interesting, and I hope it gets somewhere
functionallyawesome Aug 4, 2015 @ 6:24am
An amalgamation of a few games, yet stands alone as a unique experience. Played it when it was under development last year or so. Very fun, very chilling. Would love to see this game on Steam. My only issue was the gunplay. That may very well have been personal taste, though.
Badwolf Aug 4, 2015 @ 3:10am
Lol I love watching people bitch about the graphics. Seriously, if all you want is graphics, you should be on shitty next gen consoles. Graphics do not make the game. I feel like it's fairly obvious but people can't seem to get past it so, GAMEPLAY MAKES THE GAME. If you were to actually play it, you'd shut up because it's a good game ^_^
slightly_lostgirl Aug 3, 2015 @ 11:14pm
Huge fan of the Trilby games! I was pretty much sold when I was told Yatzee was making another game, and this one looks even better! I love the randomized case giving it replayability and the sanity effects remind me of Eternal Darkness a bit. Objective: it hurts it hurts it hurts was a beautiful touch, as was the fact that Chzo could be an enemy. I really hope this get greenlit!
