I took the opportunity to update the map and convert it to original Portal 2 style.
Great map.
It if wasn't for the few qualms I have (surfaces vs lights, identical cubes, a few save-reload maneuvers), this would easily be up there with "Lost" on my list. As it is, though, it's still a really close second.
Unfortunately I couldn't get much further than that because guess what? I got the cubes mixed up! Again with the puzzles that depend on keeping track of two identical cubes. Oh well... just remember to add those color-coded cubes if they ever get added to BEEMOD.
At this point, I found it easier to just restart the entire map. Yes, I could technically recover from where I was, but it was just so much easier to run through the steps I already knew.
The funnel was also really clever. I like the way you used a laser to "force" the player to make the cube face either up or down as it comes out the other end. At first I thought it was a coincidence, until I looked more carefully at how the laser was positioned. I had to think quite a bit before I considered "flipping" the ceiling portal around to swap the direction of the cube.
I will admit, it was at this point that I hit my first major barrier. I got stuck in a really bad way. I wandered around the map for maybe 15 - 20 minutes looking for something I could do. I finally referenced the walkthrough video and... well...
This is one of those maps I have to do a blow-by-blow of. There are just too many clever things not to give each one their due respect.
So, first off, I really like how you had a small "tutorial" for the sendificator at the beginning. It's always a good idea to introduce the player to something like that. I'll admit, when I first saw it, I thought it was just a really small map. I had almost forgotten how big it looked in the screenshot.
I did everything correctly like in your Vid. up to the point of not knowing what to do after getting the 2 cubes, but I stopped watching your Vid. at 4 mins. 9 secs to se if I can't figure out the rest myself.
Thanks for the Vid. toncica, that really helped because I spent so much time in this map never knowing what to do after getting those 2 reflector cubes!
When I used the 2nd sendificator the only few portable surfaces I have to worked with, just end up firing my cubes into the goo!
I remember you telling me"The room below the sendificator device has a laser coming out the floor to hit a catcher on the ceiling, that's the one that needs to be blocked," but I can't figure it out!
So I accept defeat, and will not vote on this map!
When you think you're done with the aggressive updating to this map just let me know and i'll give it another whirl.
There are further changes coming, in a demo by Prototype I saw several issue that need to be addressed.
*begins jumping and shooting and spinning in circles*
- extended puzzle
- no hidden logic
- no invisible connections (except one, you know the one)
- balanced, starts easy gets harder
- you can recover from any point as long as you're alive
- no unintended solutions (hopefully)
- much more challenging
:)
I'm ready to release the update, maybe that version will make that part clearer.
I use the funnel to drop below where its bump out pass the fizzler so i don't fall into the goo, and then i change over keeping my portal on the other side of the map to pick up my laser, then using cube to redirect laser to hit catcher on back wall to enable lightbridge again, but laser catcher is to high up against the ceiling! What i'm tyring to do is hit the catcher on the back wall to disable the fizzler and activate lightbridge. Is that what I'm suppose to do?
To solve this map after I have the 2 reflector cubes, do I have to figure out how to enable lightbridge again, and walk across the lightbridge with 1 of the cubes and block the laser?
@Brave, yes you can forget about the standard cube once it's on the cube button. From that point on you solve the puzzle only with the reflector cubes.
Am I suppose to figure out how to get the solid cube off the wall button to solve map, or can it be solve without removing cube from button?
It's a me thing and has nothing to do with your design, that part is really good so I did give it a like :)
for example, you place a catcher on the left side in that cage to open that little door near the start.
Also, the trapping issue in the screenshot (see the link) remains.
