very tricky map . thumbs up!

Thanks for your reply. You're welcome :) .
nicklonium  [author] Apr 3, 2015 @ 1:18am
Thanks, that certainly helped. Your method is a lot harder than the intended solution. It took multiple attempts to get it right, even when you knew what you wanted to do. I've removed some white walls to make your solution less obvious and hopefully more difficult to complete; although I don't think I can remove it completely without redesigning the entire room. I've also added a simple fix for reaching the companion cube too early.
The lasers in the pit are just an extra layer of danger for players who fall in.
The rest of the chamber was executed perfectly, thanks for playing and for your help.
RedBeam_ Apr 2, 2015 @ 12:23pm
OK, so I recorded my playthrough. You can download it here [dl.dropboxusercontent.com]. Sorry for the failing at the end. Hope it will help :) .

PS: One last question, for what purpose are the lasers in that pit (in front of the buttons to the exit)?
nicklonium  [author] Mar 22, 2015 @ 3:40am
Your solution to reaching the ceiling button was correct but I can't seem to work out how you solved it beyond that. Using the blue gel for any jump in that room should overshoot the opening to the exit door area because that's not the intended use for the blue gel. Also, I have no idea how you managed to reach the companion cube at the end from underneath, it should be unreachable thanks to the glass panels/lasers.
Would you mind explaining how you solved it in a bit more detail? A video of your solution would really help if you know how to create one. It's been a while but I think there's a built in recording system you can activate using console commands that creates the video for you.

Nice chamber, but harder than my previous ones. Also I´m not sure if i did it the right way: I used the orange gel thing to get to the ceiling button, quickly portaled to the water thing, jumped with the help blue gel to the button room, ran through buttons, somehow (I did not see what am I doing - lasers everywhere man!) picked up the cube and ran to exit.
The water and lasers are very annoying.
Please respond. :)
nicklonium  [author] Jan 14, 2014 @ 3:53am
The first one is definitely not the intended solution for the exact reason you've pointed out, the second solution works but is slightly harder than the intended solution, although it's an interesting idea so I'm tempted to leave it in as a very minor alternative to the actual answer.
Blue Jan 13, 2014 @ 3:17pm
Ok. The only ways I could find to get it done are:
(1) When you enter the chamber, immediately use the fall speed to reach the button. (this would be lame if it were the intended single solution, since you can not get back up there.)
(2) Jump off the speed gel dropper, this speed is exactly enough to reach the button.

I hope i found the correct ones. =) Great chamber btw.
nicklonium  [author] Jan 10, 2014 @ 4:04am
The easier way of finishing the first room (pressing the button through the fizzler) is the intended solution, I'm not entirely sure how else to complete that room but as long as it's more difficult than the intended solution, I'm not too worried.
You're on the right track with the speed gel and portals but it's possible to get to the cube without speed. The cleansing gel is there to prevent an alternative solution (as well as clean any items), it's a bit annoying but I remember tinkering with it and finding only one place it could go.
Blue Jan 9, 2014 @ 12:48pm
In the first room you can also stand on the edge near the water, pressing the button through the fizzler and catch the cube. I started with standing on the cube, just found this way easier.
I can't see how to reach the button in the 2nd room.
Need speed. Could use a path of speed gel and portals, need a cube for that. Can't get to the cube without speed. Can't find another cube. STUCK
The cleansing gel is annoying btw.
Could you tell me what I am doing wrong, without giving me (part of) the solution?

I really enjoyed this one right up to the end. I have tried every conievable way to make that jump and am convinced it is impossible. Still rated it up though. A few seem to have finished it and I know you don't make that kind of mistake. You have a lot of maps so I have a lot of fun ahead of me. See ya round the workshop.
gambilier Nov 10, 2013 @ 7:57pm
I enjoyed this chamber very much
EuroSong Oct 19, 2013 @ 2:58pm
I have to say that I have really enjoyed playing your "elements" series of chambers. Thank you so much for designing them. Some were fairly easy, and some had me tearing my hair out - but I completed them all!
I see you're a fan of unorthodox methods - as exemplified by this chamber, Chlorine, which requires the player to jump onto the pedestal button . I like this kind of thing: makes you think outside the box. Therefore I have a real challenge for you. If you like this sort of chamber, please try my test: "Misdirection". You can find it at http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=140602475
Please give it a go, and let me know what you think! And I want to know if you can complete it without looking up the solutions :)
nicklonium  [author] Oct 12, 2013 @ 1:33am
Whatever you're doing, there's a good chance you're doing it wrong. There's no glitch in here at all. I would never design a chamber chamber mechanic around a glitch for two reasons: if the glitch is fixed, the mechanic (and the chamber) becomes useless and, I agree, it's very harsh to design a test that deliberately uses a glitch.
Perhaps do a bit of lateral thinking before pointing the accusatory finger.
SirDef11 Oct 11, 2013 @ 11:22pm
Do you know what ? i would to be nice with creators, your ideas and your work inspires respect, in first... I thumbed down this map. To use glitches is just stupid man. This ISNT funny, not at all !!! CAUSE THIS DONT WORK MAN, THERE ARE ALWAYS OTHER GLITCHES THAT YOU DONT WANT. For me: the cube is destroying himself in middle of air... I'm not as much stupid to retry again and again, where is fun ?? This isnt hard, this is glitch. This isnt a game, this is a work, as cruel as the movie Saw
metadavid Oct 10, 2013 @ 5:22pm
Wow. that was brilliantly tricky to figure out. Lots of awkward unusual moves to make. Great. Got me thinking.
presto668 Sep 30, 2013 @ 4:57pm
It wasn't that I wanted to use the glitch, it's that it was the only way I could see to do it.
nicklonium  [author] Sep 30, 2013 @ 2:30am
The first room was perfect, that's exactly the method I intended. The second room, not so much. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much I can do about that glitch that won't mean completely redesigning that room. If players wan't to use a known glitch to solve the room and potentially affect their overall satisfaction or enjoyment, there's not much I can do to stop them. In the last room, [/spoiler]the jump is similar to the first room in Cobalt.[/spoiler]
presto668 Sep 29, 2013 @ 3:41pm
First room I'm not sure I did right. Jumped on the pedestal button and placed portals to fling the cube toward me, then stepped through the fizzler, caught the cube and held it straight up over the fizzler . Second room the only way I could figure out how to do it was to exploit the levitating cube glitch. Third room I think I know what you're supposed to do ( bounce over the laser pit to the row of buttons ), but I couldn't make it work, so I gave up and noclipped. :-/
MachManX Sep 23, 2013 @ 1:31pm
Ok, the laser grid was never an issue. I guess I need to know the intended solution for the last room. And looks like I'm not alone. Anyone wanna post a youtube vid?
nicklonium  [author] Sep 23, 2013 @ 2:37am
The overhead laser grid has been modified to reduce the the risk of death in the last room. If it's still too difficult or too unpredictable please don't hesitate to let me know and thanks for all the feedback so far, it's been much appreciated.
MachManX Sep 22, 2013 @ 9:30pm
I was gonna say how good this chamber was, until I met the last chamber. Unless there's some direct solution for it and not some trick that only works sometimes then I cannot get myself to like this chamber.

I recommend the author play this with all the latest fixes and see if it still can be beaten without cheap tricks.
wildgoosespeeder Sep 19, 2013 @ 9:17pm
The end was horrific. That overhead laser field killed me at least a dozen times.

Try my map?

Good chamber
[BEP]JakeSoft Sep 1, 2013 @ 5:57pm
Ok, I got out of the first room! Thanks for telling me that was an unintended solution that I was trying. Once I stopped barking up the wrong tree things worked out better. lol
nicklonium  [author] Sep 1, 2013 @ 2:18pm
Brilliant, probably one of the funniest little glitches I've seen in my chambers so far.
BlumCoLe' Sep 1, 2013 @ 1:01pm
btw: i love portal! xD

physically impossible. ^^

The bug with the portals behind the gel droppers is not helpful, just a logical mistake and it looks not nice. Just a design bug. ;)
nicklonium  [author] Sep 1, 2013 @ 12:57pm
Jake, what you're attempting is an unintended solution that I've just fixed. Although the solution you're attempting is rather interesting, I might see if I can work it into a future chamber.

BlumCole, I'm not quite sure how placing portals near the actual gel droppers helps, could you elaborate?
[BEP]JakeSoft Sep 1, 2013 @ 11:54am
I can get the cube to fall on the far button after several attempts. However, it's very random how it lands and often rolls right off. If it does not roll of, it often aims the lazer at an odd angle making it impossible to hit the reciever so I have to try again. Why not add a portalable surface directly above the button or some flip-up glass to stop the cube from rolling off when the button is active?

After getting the cube on the button and the lazer aimed at the receiver I still don't see any way to get off the first platform. In the end, I gave up on solving this one. If there are other rooms, I never got past the first one. I guess I fail.
BlumCoLe' Sep 1, 2013 @ 9:37am
I think i found a intended way for the first part, which don't need the cube button.
It's possible to jump on the pedestal button and set portals to the right positions ...cube falls on the button. And go in the funnel ...finished.

Third part ...i can set portals behind the gel tubes.
drumcoaster Aug 30, 2013 @ 5:10pm
I feel powerless for quite a while on these puzzles.
Day of Retribution Aug 26, 2013 @ 11:43pm
its good ( hope y dident see that post i put up but deleted it but i get stuck cuz i dam redirection cube dident work!
DropTheDodongo Aug 24, 2013 @ 9:33pm
And with that, I have succesfully tested all 15 of your current chambers. There were some real headaches in a few of those (some caused by the fact that I couldn't save, some caused by lighting {hahaha}), but there were also many entertaining rooms. For Plutonium, I would like to point out that some idiot proofing is in order, otherwise that last room can cause a real problem due to the Redirection Cube getting stuck.

I'll see you in the next chamber :p2turret:
DropTheDodongo Aug 24, 2013 @ 9:30pm
The last room is a little hard to navigate because the turrets hitting me made me ignore that area for a bit. Didn't see that they could be avoided by just running far enough ahead . Plus, it''s possible to lose the sphere in there, which I did while finding out what to do.

I definitely, definitely have to thank you again for teaching be about Quick Save, otherwise I'd still be on it because of that last room.
Ulviss Aug 20, 2013 @ 2:36am
for the first time i had give up. good job.
i havn't found the solution of the third room. i was be surprised by the catapul,i havn't found the reason of the catapult exepte a trape. and the cleaning gel don't help for see the room. i had see a cube button but i don't know where is the cube. (sorry for my english)
nicklonium  [author] Aug 15, 2013 @ 8:29am
Thanks Prototype, definitely need a couple of tweaks in this chamber to make it right. That last room seemed quite contentious when I was designing it but I eventually realised the actual way of solving it is much easier than any of the weird alternatives I was testing out. The faith plate should now be essential to the puzzle as well. The second room wasn't quite right but it's a couple of simple little fixes which I've just updated.

Martin, it sounds like you're in the first room, try shooting your portal from a different angle. The laser emitter and receiver couldn't be centred on their respective tiles to line up with the laser cube on the button, their alignment matches but they're not in the standard positions.
Xbeekeeper Aug 15, 2013 @ 6:19am
I worked out you need to put the cube on the button but could not get it right so I can redirect the laser. unless I am missing something?
Prototype Aug 15, 2013 @ 3:45am
My blindrun (in two parts where I died): https://www.dropbox.com/s/jtcakvop57ak3qs/chlorine.dem https://www.dropbox.com/s/0v45k3tr15lkrym/chlorine2.dem I think I did the last room in a way that is probably harder than the intended way, but does work. Didn't see the reason for the catapult in the last room, I used it but I think it isn't needed, just fling gel from portalable wall. It's a nice puzzle although I didn't like the last room.
