I like the idea, but since it is taller than the pyro himself, I think it would cause:
a) Clipping with map objects
b) Stealth, like hiding behind low barricades, would be non-exsistent
c) Easy class identification would be difficult because enemies would see a bobbing lamp running around and I could easily see snipers instinctly firing at the lamp before they realized they just wasted a shot.

I am not saying this is a terrible idea, in fact I like it. It just seems way to big and obtrusive for it to be a cosmetic item. Maybe make it smaller or redesign the neck of the lamp to reduce the above listed problems.

Very nice! Positioning might cause some clipping issues, so I might recommend pulling the actual lamp up or back a ways.
You might want to look into the self-illumination channel, to literally let your model shine

i agree with Some Guy, make it come down and shine on pyro (you know the crappy lights that are just a cone with transperancy) and paintable
