You may or may not experience an FPS impact depending on what's in your system. Please refer to the mod description for more information. I personally recommend people use the Skyrim Distance Overhaul mod, which accomplishes the same thing this mod does, but in a much more elegant fashion. I made this mod before the SDO existed, and was working with limited tools/modeling skills.

Check out the Skyrim Distance Overhaul here:

It offers better results at better performance.

Eh... Just tired of setting graphics to low and not seeing anybody until they're in melee range. Puts a small damper on snipers, :P

The only way I know of to increase the draw distance for people is in the SkyrimPrefs file in My Documents/My Games/Skyrim. Find the line fLODFadeOutMultActors=15.0000 and increase the number to 25 or so. I think that controls it, but you can also check out a tweak guide for Skyrim to be sure.

The Distant Detail mods are outdated, but I keep them online for people who still want them. I recommend and personally use the mods linked to in the description, as they are able to achieve the results I was striving for in a much more efficient way.

There's a mod called the Skyrim Distance Overhaul (I think) that does the same thing that my mod does, only I believe it is with more optimized meshes. I don't really support this mod much anymore because it was made in a time when there wasn't any other mod available to make distant objects visible. I definitely recommend you check out the Distance Overhaul.

It only affects certain large objects, not every object as that would nuke your performance on any system.

Well it is possible that those shrubs are objects which could be made visible when distant with the Creation Kit. The surefire way to fix pop in and visibility distance is to increase the ugrids setting, yes, if you have a computer that will handle the increased load.

I have a few mods installed that add a bunch of shrubs and other plants because I think Skyrim is too bare without them and I hate seeing them randomly popping in. So the only way to increase them (by a little) is to edit the cell/ grid range? I'm just iffy about editing the grid range because it causes so many problems and can't be undone (to saves anyway)

You can extend the grass distance in the .INI file, but it will only show up on fully loaded cells. Actual shrubs could probably be made visible when distant, but in my opinion, plants wouldn't contribute that much to the visuals at far range.

Finally found this mod to be preventing Heljarchen house to show up after attempting to build. I had built both other houses in Hearthfire. I have all DLC's, all Unofficials, unchecked this mod and now can build. Liked the mod, tho.

Would be nice if this was renamed to have "Vanilla" or something else added to the end to differentiate it from the Hearthfire version. This would've made it easier to figure out which mod was causing my issues with Hearthfire.

Unfortunately, the more I add the heavier the performance impact will be. There is a much more efficient take on this idea, called "The Skyrim Distance Overhaul," but last I checked, it isn't compatible with Hearthfire, so use caution if you're running that expansion.

There is a Hearthfire-friendly version available in the workshop. Search for Distant Detail Hearthfire Edition, and go ahead and disable the original Distant Detail plugin before downloading the new one.

That should get you back up and running.

I run SDO with Dawnguard. The issue is that it is not compatible with Hearthfire. I made SDO work with Hearthfire by opening all the .ESPs in Creation Kit and re-saving them with Hearth.esm activated as part of their dependent master files.

But if you're running just Dawnguard, it's fine.
