Also, I'll just leave this here . Don't ask me how this happened because I have no idea.
toncica  [author] Nov 29, 2014 @ 5:52pm
The "overgrown style" was added because of josepezdj's Hammer remix, I thought it would fit well. In a complex chamber I wouldn't use it because it would be distracting, here there are very few elements to pay attention to though. I'm aware that it can take a while to solve, if this doesn't work well I could go back to default Portal 2 style.
Thanks for the feedback.

Good job with the aesthetics! I think it could have used a bit more color (foliage, stuff seen through windows, etc) but the ambient effects added a lot. The PeTI editor doesn't give many choices as to the color pallete of a test chamber, but Hammer gives you free reign to "paint" your chamber into any color you want. I realize it's supposed to be a "white" chamber, but it can still be hard on the eyes, especially for a chamber that can potentially take a long time to solve.
Ganymede Nov 29, 2014 @ 5:23pm
Well, I was trying something that, ultimately, would have never worked, but would have been cool if it was possible: I was trying to use the 2-drop from the exit together with the 1-drop below the exit to add up to a 3-fling up into the tractor beam. Didn't quite consider using the 3-drop near the entrance instead.

There's a fair bit of timing involved in this puzzle! More than I expected.
Also, I noticed that, due to the sheer white-ness of this chamber, it was a bit difficult to see whether the fizzlers were down at a distance. I ended up spamming portals at them rather than trying to decipher upon inspection.

Don't mind me, just shamelessly promoting my take on it :) http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=331782712

After playing josepezdj's remix, the solution here came quite fast, but that's a clever puzzle and I prefer the "simple-white" version ;) (even if it was a bit weird after the impressive aesthetical work in remix)

At last ! This test took me a while to solve :)
General_Lecter_ Apr 24, 2014 @ 4:27pm
After some months I decided to give this one a second chance. It still took me a while but I eventually solved it exactly as it's shown in josepezdj's video!

I must say I was slightly disappointed, though. I've always had a hunch that the cube button had to be activated while I was up inside the funnel... but I've been lost for ages on what to do next... Turns out it all comes down to finding a portalable wall above the exit door to do a cheap funnel trick with... >:(

I really didn't expect the level to involve any kind of funnel trick like that, so the cube dropper not being aligned to the exit door's button was totally misleading to me. I'd have favourited the map otherwise because the first part was very clever...

OK, time to play josepezdj's version! :)
toncica  [author] Mar 16, 2014 @ 6:54am
Hey KptnJ, sorry for the late reply. As you suspect you've done the first part not as it was intended but it sounds like I can tolerate that alternative solution. If you scroll down a few comments you can see the intended solution in the video by josepezdj.

Btw, you don't need additional video software when you want to record a playthrough. Portal2 can record a demo file with the console command "record" and everybody can playback that playthrough when you share the demo file.
Norppalainen Mar 9, 2014 @ 5:52pm
Is this anything like the proper solution?
Norppalainen Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:50am
From here on, I imagine this should resemble the intended solution. As you are at the starting point, shoot portal where it's required to open the fizzler, leave the cube in front of it, and go through the portal. Now, shoot portal at the end of the funnel, and stay on the edge so you won't actually go through the funnel. The cube will be funneled towards the fizzler, now cube will fall, and that cube ends up pressing the butten. Shoot a portal to the goal area, and another portal just below the cube. Cube is now in goal area.

Now, shoot the non-goal portal to the end of funnel, and go through. Cube will go through fizzler, so shoot a portal above the final door to grab the new cube, and direct that last cube to the X button on the wall.
Norppalainen Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:45am
You can now wiggle the not-pit-portal to the box on the button, and grab it as you fall down. Then toss the cube on the floor in the pit, and start wiggling your way towards the funnel. The height you have is enough to get to the funnel at the end of your wiggling road.

Now, shoot portal on the wall right next to the funnel, and go through. Place cube on the floor in a corner, shoot portal on the wall above it, and jump on that portal. Because you can stand on portals, you have just enough height that you can jump from that portal to the starting area, and thus get out of the pit. Take the cube with you as you do this.
Norppalainen Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:42am
The most recommended free software either cost ridiculous amounts, don't work, or are obviously full of viruses. I don't think there's a way for me to show it in video. However, the basic gist of it is this:

First, get to the box. Put it on the button on the ground. Shoot portal to the roof, and in the pit near starting area. Jump through the pit portal, and shoot roof portal into the ground below. You are now bouncing between 2 portals, one of which is in the pit
Norppalainen Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:03am
Do you have any suggested programs for making such videos? The I found GameCam, which my antivirus wouldn't let me install, and fraps, which costs $40.
toncica  [author] Feb 25, 2014 @ 11:30pm
I can't picture what you did, it certainly doesn't sound intended. If you provide a demo or a video I could check if it needs fixing.
Norppalainen Feb 25, 2014 @ 9:59am
I am really, really unsure if I solved this the right way. I'm almost certain it was not the intended solution, in fact, but I simply could not think of any other way to do it. I'll describe the solution:

I basically wiggled myself up from the pit using cube and a portal

Great map, I loved it. It's now part of my favorites along with great cubini and cognitive dissonance.
ken.roberts Oct 23, 2013 @ 2:57pm
You are correct - I did not complete without demo. I used to stubbornly refuse to do that even if it meant months to solve. But lately - there are so many goo maps and so little time - that I figger it was better to look at demo since I had already tried for a week. Will do as you suggest and try josepezdj's map. Thanks
josepezdj Oct 15, 2013 @ 10:09pm
It is small, but it's far from being simple ;)
toncica  [author] Oct 15, 2013 @ 3:04pm
Thanks, it's such a simple small puzzle. :D
josepezdj Oct 15, 2013 @ 1:59pm
Ok, man, another run :D Someone posted yesterday in my previous video something like: "that's an old version, the funnel is placed differently... blah blah..." :P

So: New Video Solution
toncica  [author] Oct 12, 2013 @ 8:01am
Sorry to have caused you that much trouble. As I understand you haven't completed the puzzle before watching the demo, that's not what we both wanted. May I suggest a possible way for redemption, josepezdj's remix is a different challenge which will give a great satisfaction when solved. I think this map serves as a good preparation for the remix.
ken.roberts Oct 12, 2013 @ 7:08am
I went as far as to shut down Portal 2 and restart it - still no worky. The demo was playing but it was moving and shooting portals all over the place. But finally I rebooted and all was fine - so I delete that Post. As to the map, I spent a full week on it with 99% of my time wrongly trying to get myself up into the funnal "AFTER" opening the exit room fizzler and getting a portal in there. I even tried wall-climbing which never works Very VERY insidious puzzle. This was a complete mind-F - - -. It was both vexing and perplexing . . . a brain tease and brain freeze . . . and more Devious than a Mevious. Kudos, Dude ! !

Thank you. Wow, that was very cool. Usually I don't allow alternative solutions but that was really impressive. Anybody coming up with that solution deserves to claim victory. Fortunately there is an easier way for us noobs. :D

Can you show me your solution? Unless there was any glitch involved I'm dying to know how you managed to solve it in an alternative way.
Fatso Oct 11, 2013 @ 10:51am
@ toncica Wow I just watched your demo, amazed how we all can think of different ways to solve a chamber. I must say you made it look real easy, my way was very difficult but I did solve it. Once again very good chamber like the puzzle and design. One of my favorite top 10 chambers.
toncica  [author] Oct 10, 2013 @ 1:29pm
Nice, you two are very good at this. Most people think it's really hard to figure out despite or because the simplistic looking room. It's probably hard to challenge you while keeping it solvable for other players.
Brave Oct 10, 2013 @ 1:21pm
Solved your chamber but I had to destroyed the cube twice to finished it!
Challenging map like Camerson1313's maps!
Fatso Oct 10, 2013 @ 12:48pm
Another nice chamber, spent some time figuring this one out, my way of solving was with the craziest of jumping and portal skills. I'll have to make a video on how I solved it, cause if I tried to explain how I did it, I don't think anyone would understand. Had fun solving White Room. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=184932318

Yes, sorry for my critical typo and for several other grammatical mistakes. I'm really glad that you've tried my way of solving your masterful puzzle. Sincerely, your chamber was one of the most challenging ones that I've solved. Many feasible ways that is can be solved in make a player feel free in his/her actions, which sometimes results in creativity. Anyway, can you please give me a link to your walkthrough or to any video with a proper solution.
toncica  [author] Sep 1, 2013 @ 3:53am
Thanks Opie! I had a problem with your step number 3. You probably mean exit area, not entrance area. The cube should be out of reach and safe from any fizzler, but as I tested it now it randomly makes it to the fizzler in about 20% of the attempts. I've pushed the exit further back to make it more unlikely that the cube gets destroyed. Your solution was inventive and in other circumstances it could be legit, but I don't want randomness having any part in this.
|-Dr-|Opie Aug 31, 2013 @ 11:52am
Of course, it's actually quite simple: 1. make the cube push the cube button 2. place a portal on the ceiling of the exit area 3. *cube falls on the ground from the cube button* so put another portal it in such a way it destroys itself off the fizzler near the entrance 4. make a portal just under the guiding funnel while preserving that portal on the ceiling 5. pick up the respawned cube and put it on the edge of the portal that is under the funnel 6. climb on a cube, jump from it, and in flignt replace the portal from the ceiling to the ground to gain momentum grab the cube that was left while flying (only by jumping from the cube you will be able to make this jump) 7. replace the portal that is under the funnel to take the cube to the exit area while having the funnel 8. place a portal on a wall above the exit door and destroy the cube 9. cube respawns, falls in your funnel and you gide it with a funnel to press the butten that opens the exit.
toncica  [author] Aug 30, 2013 @ 11:59pm
Apparently, wanna share your solution?
|-Dr-|Opie Aug 30, 2013 @ 7:44pm
I reckon your puzzle did not involve jumping from the cube in the portal on the ground... Apparently, I found an uninteded solution:)

I will try to make a video of it me completing your chamber to show you how I did it. Now I'm curious. x)
toncica  [author] Aug 15, 2013 @ 5:23pm
It sounds like you solved it the intended way. Weird that you say the execution was hard too. While it may not be trivial I thought it's far away from being hard to execute. Maybe you did something differently which complicated it a bit, I don't know.
Thanks for playing and I will play your map.
♜ SAmAS ♜ Aug 15, 2013 @ 5:04pm
By the way took me almost 1 hour!!
♜ SAmAS ♜ Aug 15, 2013 @ 5:00pm
Damn, hardest chamber I have ever played! Not only in terms of puzzle solving, but also in terms of execution! Not sure if I did it the intended way tho! My objective was to stay on the funnel during all the process. So the first hard thing was to place a portal next to the entrance and put myself on the funnel; the second thing was to remove the final fizzler and portal the cube next to the exit and push him to the fizzler to be respawn, at the same time I could go with the funnel and enter that final part. The third thing was to, using the funnel, guide the respawned cube to the pressure plate. Any mistake would restart all process! Uff...this was tougher than multiple anal rape man...damn... But now I'm finally happy!

Feel free to try my map too, it's not at the same level of challenging, but it's somehow difficult Se7en Sins

see ya man

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it over the months. :D
Piranha.A Aug 15, 2013 @ 2:40pm
OMG! It only took me a couple of month to figure this one out :D. I think all in all I must have spent quite some time in this chamber ... very well done and very rewarding. I'm happy that I didn't look for a walkthrough even though the temptation was immense at times.
Thanks for this wonderful puzzle, toncica!!!

Thanks HMW. A compliment from such a magnificent map maker means a lot.
HMW Aug 10, 2013 @ 10:41am
This looks so basic, but man is it difficult. It took me pretty long to get this one. Probably about an hour with a long break in the middle...
I think the most evil part is the absence of any black walls. So many places to put portals, and it doesn't help at all. Very clever design!
Denominator Aug 7, 2013 @ 7:26pm
Amazing puzzle! This puzzle is way above my solving abilities =)
BadMoon Aug 3, 2013 @ 5:27am
Got it, and I think it was the intended solution. Very clever puzzle and so easy, if you know what to do. Really brilliant work toncica, thanks for that great puzzle!

If I may give a small hint: Use the side exit of the funnel
Andi Jul 8, 2013 @ 6:18pm
Even after reading the spoilers and watching the videos, I still can't figure it out because of the chages that you incorperated into the map made it impossible to solve it that way again. I'm obviously too stupid to figure this one out. I officially give up.

BTW, did you ever try my newest one?

I didn't get a critique yet.
toncica  [author] Jul 3, 2013 @ 2:15am
Thanks for showing. I made a change to prevent that unintended solution. This fizzler has been a problem in each position, allowing a solution with the help of randomness. Therefore I extended it with another segment, now with the double dose of fizzling. I hoped it wouldn't come to this.
Bayram Jul 2, 2013 @ 4:41pm
No, I probably didn't use the intended solution : here's what I did (at 1:05, skip forward to 3:10 to miss out the boring part).
