One of the few upcoming games I'm looking forward to. EVN-style. Good luck with dev't.

Looks a lot like the modern Frontier: Elite 2. I love space exploration and combat games so I'll get on board for this.

Granted, it's been a while since I played EVE but assuming that game hasn't fundamentally changed in the last couple of years, I can confirm this is nothing like it. The only similarities are it's 3rd person and set in space. Seriously, they're completely different games.

The feel of flying is completely different, the combat is completely different, the gameplay (it being single-player in particular) is completely different.

I honestly don't get the comparison, unless you're making a snap judgement based on the video alone. If so, you're a bit of a tit.

great game has a lot of potential. Once it's on steam greenlight keep it in alpha for a while because it needs lot more done to it.

@ThatGuy I did consider trying to be more accurate with the galaxy map but ultimately decided it would have been far too time-consuming to implement, taking away from working on the core gameplay.
ThatGuy Nov 10, 2013 @ 5:40pm
Procedural generation is cool, but were actual star charts ever considered for the map?
outfctrl Nov 9, 2013 @ 6:27pm
Just finished playing it a little. Reminds me of Jumpgate with the Newtonian Physics, especially when you go to 1st person view. No cockpit though

Tremendous stuff. Understood about AppStore policy. Who knows: maybe Apple will wake up to the idea of something similar to Greenlight in the distant and murky future (sounds a bit too innovative for Apple, to me) but, in the meantime, all we have is overwhelming antici.........pation :)

I'd be super stoked for a Steam Early Access in the meantime so I can get my deep space kicks on a proper desktop.

Bring it on, sir!
CGSColin  [author] Nov 9, 2013 @ 8:42am
That said, there's a chance we'll be doing a Steam Early Access release in the near future as an interim solution at least for desktop folks. Not much of a solution for iOS users I know but beta/early access stuff is against App Store policy so there's not much I can do there :(
CGSColin  [author] Nov 9, 2013 @ 8:27am
We are indeed running out of 2013. It may be ready to go by the end of the year but I'm contemplating my options because December is starting to look like a bad time to launch for a small game. I'll be posting an update about this once this next desktop beta push goes out.
dalglir Nov 9, 2013 @ 3:34am
Erm. Any chance of a release update for the mobile version? Slated for '2013 when it's ready' but we're rapidly running out of 2013 :(

I'd buy both Steam and iOS versions. Looking to replace GOF2 HD with something that's a little deeper and doesn't spam ads at the beginning of every session :)

One of few games I'm actually interested in. Visual style is good.
catfishsamurai Nov 7, 2013 @ 1:02pm
Very reminiscent of Escape Velocity. Looks promising.

Sildadar Nov 3, 2013 @ 1:16pm
I've seen a few people say this is an EVE ripoff. It's less that than it is EVE done correctly. Well played Colin.

Thank you everyone!

EVE... для одного игрока
Varsidian Oct 28, 2013 @ 1:23am
The ambience that drifter gives off is nice, the scaling I feel of the visual assets need work I feel, the planets and the space stations are almost equal in size. I'm not sure if I would buy it though seeing as how it feels so looks like a massive draining experience to have an exciting experience. Music gives off a nice serene, harmonius feel too it compliments it nicely but so far, it's a lackluster, maybe for some casual laid-back play would this game see its merit.
Jasko Oct 27, 2013 @ 11:16pm
looks cool
TeslaCEPH Oct 27, 2013 @ 9:00pm
I like the music
Hakke Oct 27, 2013 @ 5:30pm
looks good ! will there maybe be a cockpitview ? :)
CGSColin  [author] Oct 27, 2013 @ 3:51pm
Apparently Drifter is a rip-off of quite a few space games :) For what it's worth, I'm not directly trying to clone or copy anything in particular but there are many influences and a lot of space games seem to cover similar ground.
joefish Oct 27, 2013 @ 3:14pm
i really like the way u guys have made this game something i would really enjoy u guys did a really good job hope u get on steam
bowlorama Oct 27, 2013 @ 1:22pm

MrKrebz<^> Oct 26, 2013 @ 12:52pm
I think this is likely a ripoff of EVE, but as long as there's no montly subscription fee and multiplayer acces i think ill be wiling to try it out
Nakara-san Oct 26, 2013 @ 10:21am
Чем-то напоминает X3 Runion, но так игра очень хорошая.
BlakLite Oct 26, 2013 @ 9:39am
Some people will likely disagree with me, but I kinda like how the combat is limited to a single horizontal plane. I've found that a persistent problem with many full-3D space combat games is that the total freedom to fly in any 3D direction often tends to be disorienting and makes it a pain just to keep up with where your enemies are.

Also, props to the author for that last comment. It's true that fans deserve to know how the development process is going, but making a quality product should always come first, even if it means pushing back the release date. Too many games have suffered from being rushed to meet an approaching deadline.
CGSColin  [author] Oct 25, 2013 @ 2:42pm
@wow_yahoo I'm more than aware of this and I'm doing the best that I can. All I can say is I fully intend on completing the game as quickly as possible and I'm trying to increase the frequency of meaningful updates, but I'm not going sacrifice doing a good job just to meet an arbitrary deadline. Thank you for your patience!
wow_yahoo Oct 25, 2013 @ 2:11pm
I voted for this game; however, you need to provide updates more frequently, especially since you missed your original release date.
Jay-Nic Oct 25, 2013 @ 10:17am
Kickstarter + Escape Velocity MMO clone = millions. Still looking for a Space Trader that grabs me the way the EV series did. Best of luck!
MISG Oct 25, 2013 @ 10:16am
Not my type of game from what I see here not much different from the Xrebirth coming out on Nov 15th. If you have multiplayer that would definatly get my attention.
Geofferic Oct 25, 2013 @ 9:03am
Hmm. Unrealistic space flight in the extreme. Claims to be a space trading game, but shows video of a 'dogfighting' ship. 3rd person view. Meh.
Raëlian Oct 24, 2013 @ 1:40am
I love sci-fi games, and this is something I am defiantly interested in. I am not that big of a fan of outer-space fighting because it is illogical, but it's something to add for fun factor I suppose. I like flexible games that can adhere to certain play styles. For example Civilization V has 5 different ways to win the game. You can avoid combat entirely or focus it as the main aspect.

The reason why I say fighting in space is illogical, is when a civilization is able to overcome its aggressiveness, it will always be peaceful. Because if it didn't, it would destroy itself and die out before reaching the stars. I can't back this up but it is a logical way of thinking for myself. Some may disagree because they have been conditioned to watching star wars or others.

If the game comes out, i'll defiantly be thinking about purchasing the game. Thank you and keep up the work.

Looks like kind of like Eve, with less spreadsheets. Greenlighted it.

Take a page out of the original Elite's book, if you would?
