Interesting idea, but can you add others' voices for polyphony? Can you set parameters for song structure, such as tempo, meter, harmonies over which to riff? Looking forward to more information and for the release. First comment.

Played this at Minecon with the Oculus Rift. It's an amazing experience and unlike anything I'd ever seen done before. It really is hard to put into words but you absolutely need to experience it. The first time I tried it I was overwhelmed with by the feelings and emotions it gave me after 30 seconds. Upon my second attempt I was more able to allow myself to be fully immersed. I would buy a Rift just for SoundSelf.

Please spread the word about this "game" and lets get it Greenlit. Playing this on the Oculus Rift is an amazing experience. The meditative state it puts you in is beyond anything ive (legally) tried.

Whether or not this product is successful, I love the approach the designer is taking towards interactivity and immersion and want to see more of this sort of thing.

My current computer can't run much to be honest (really old and beaten up), but I'm gonna be buying a new computer in a month or so.
Once I have said computer I'll be sure to try out that alpha.

WOW. Totally blown away! Got to experience this at Captivate Con on an Oculus. I had to take a moment to reorient myself because it was like stepping completely into another world.

This is something I'd likely buy, should it get greenlit.
Very unique concept.
This may be pretty useful as a tool for meditation as well, or simply to calm people down or help stabilize people that have problems with their mental stability, as sound is something that can often affect people in a very positive way that almost no other sense allows.
Being someone with some of said mental problems, and someone who, thanks to some of those problems, is especially receptive and sensitive to sound, I'm extremely excited to try this out for myself.
I hope this gets greenlit, because that would be fantastic.
One of those few games I've come across on Greenlight that actually make me think "You know what? If this gets greenlit I think I'd actually throw money down for this game at full price, not even waiting for a sale."
Anyway, I hope the development for SoundSelf continues well, and hits as few snags as possible. :D

Hey @Blue Kachina - I'd love to reply to your comment in depth, but the comment would be too long for this space. Would you start a discussion in the discussion threads, and I'll answer in depth? It's a difficult one - the whole "game" thing is something I've danced around a lot. :-).

For your simpler questions: Stereoscopic 3D currently only supports the Oculus Rift, but we're hoping to support all existing 3D technology. We're just not there yet.

Also, YES! There's going to be an SDK :-). If you're both impatient and good at figuring things out, all the scripts and documentation are readily available in our alpha, it's just kind of obscure and difficult until we take the time to put together a hacker's guide.

Hey Robin;
I'm one of your backers, and I like what I've seen of your software so far. I must say though, that I'm a little confused about this 'game'. I've done a lot of experimentation with sound myself, and think that this looks a lot like stuff that I've done with Winamp in the past. Many people know that you can set up winamp to display visualizations based on the music going through it (and it has some exceptionally beautiful ones -- thank you Ryan Geiss!). Most of those people however, will not know that you can set up Winamp to accept a line-in (specify "linein://" as the location to open). Once you do this, the visualizations will actually react to your input which is pretty amazing. Is your software essentially doing this kind of thing, but also adding VST effects to the voice? Is it reading pitch/timbre/velocity of the voice, and synthesizing new sounds using those variables? Very curious.

@Dr.H4ze - it's only voice - the body connection, feeling the sound come out of your body and hearing the reciprocation, is a big part of the experience.

@RAGameSound: i see, well i'm glad i could bring something new into consideration anyway.

While i'm at it; i was really inspired by the 2nd part of The Tenets of Videodreams when i read it a little(?) while back. And wrote a comment... that was about three times as long as steam permits... <.<

I witheld it, and asked if it was okay to post it there since tripple posting a reply (sort of structured like an argument i suppose) felt like it could be kind of disrespectful.

Regardless, those were some interesting thoughts i had, and i would like to share them.

If you don't want it on the announcement blog i suppose i could put it up as a discussion, why didn't i think of that earlier.. >.<

Anyway, it's a big piece of my thoughts after reading that blog-thing, so i don't wanna post it if you don't want that form of discussion up here :-)

@Zucku - that's interesting. I hadn't thought of that. I stand more with "Bob" on my position of integrating recording natively, but if you would enjoy having that functionality I'd highly recommend FRAPS. That's what I use for video capture: http://www.fraps.com

@dx.H4ze, what gave you the impression that this was a studio experience? We're 100% supporting PC / Mac / Linux. That's what the game is designed for. If you could tell me what left you with the impression that we may not be, it'd help me improve our messaging.

I agree; I don't think you should put native recording support in because some things are better if they just aren't recorded. Watching it again just won't be as good as living in that moment, and a psychedelic game like this definitely falls into that category of things.

@Booterix a TON of people have played it on acid, and it is definitely something pretty special for that state of mind. That said, the game's sort of an acid trip itself... so... no drugs required.

@Zucku we're definitely going to be doing some fancy recording stuff, but the question of whether we have a built in function for recording the experience (i.e. as a movie or image to be viewed later) is something we're still on the fence about. On the one hand, it's great to allow players the opportunity to share their experience. On the other hand, doing so takes the player out of flow and puts them into a critical mind space. My current thinking is that software like FRAPS does a great job of that for players who want to go the extra mile, but that I don't want to actively encourage new players to break the flow by having an in-game option.
