The texts from the Poetic Edda have been translated by Henry Adam Bellows in 1923. The original text in Oldnorse and the translation of Bellows can be found on:

So this version is translated? Do you have a version, that is not translated? But written in original language. Does not have to be with Runes, but that would definitely add to the experience.

No worries... I thought that as you were exposing Skyrim players to some wonderful material, it'd be great to also have some pre-Saxon books too. However, I understand why you'd prefer to keep it Caucasian, considering the games Nordic theme.
Altbert  [auteur] 18 aug 2016 om 10:28
Haven't thought about Celtic mythology, because I wanted to keep it (North-)Germannic. But, according to some historians, Celts were a Germannic people also. So, maybe if I find the time ...
Aendruu 18 aug 2016 om 7:05
Fantastic work! Thank you for your dedication to the sagas. Any chance of the tales of Cu Chulaind or any other Celtic mythology?
Altbert  [auteur] 11 jul 2016 om 9:13
My "Floating Island of Legends" mod contains some 140 books with old Norse, Germannic and Anglo-Saxon myths, legends and sagas.
wolfenskarn 10 jul 2016 om 20:47
Holy... 35 books?!
Yeazzal 23 okt 2015 om 15:18
Awesome, will check it out
Altbert  [auteur] 23 okt 2015 om 15:10
@Yeazzel: There's a lot more reading material available in my "Floating Island of Legends" mod. The library contains almost all of the old Norse, Germannic and Anglo-Saxon myths, legends and sagas.
Yeazzal 23 okt 2015 om 14:30
Wow nice work, I like new reading material, especially real ones
Altbert  [auteur] 20 jun 2015 om 4:13
The Ragnarok is described in the first part, Voluspo or Voluspa, of the Poetic Edda.

ooo!, i am terribly sorry Altbert, it seems i read the location wrong (*smacks forehead*) i took it as being at the collage of winterhold only. I have being reading too much i guess i got crosse eyed lol.
Again thanks for this addition to the game.
Altbert  [auteur] 6 nov 2014 om 7:24
Rev. 3 of this mod has the complete Poetic Edda in the Bards College also. You don't have to join the Bards College in Solitude to have access to the books. And, with one of my last mods "Floating Island of Legends" you will have all legends, sagas and myths complete in a simple player home up in the sky.
Gainer .44 5 nov 2014 om 15:06
Hi Altbert,
I wish you could put copy's of Eddu Saga in other location's too (Bard's College). I am playing a char. that is not supposed to have any ties to the college of winterhold and most surtenly not joining it. I would like to read over this version of the Edda sögu/saga. But anyway's, thank you for adding these Sagas of my people's history.

hailsa altbert, well done.
Roy_Valdez 22 jul 2013 om 11:09
Hey, thank you for putting these in~ I personally loved the edda's and having them in here was awesome. Hope you have some luck with the mythos that helped build this game into what it is~
Altbert  [auteur] 6 jul 2013 om 16:06
Sorry, but these are the originals translated into English. Changing places, names, etc. into Tamrielic should imply me to rewrite those legends and sagas in the same way Tolkien (LOTR) and Wagner (Nibelungen) did.
anvil2011 5 jul 2013 om 20:39
I really like book mods. But can I ask you a favor? Could you change a lot of the words to be more Tamrielish, as much as possible? Places, names, etc....
Altbert  [auteur] 11 jun 2013 om 9:03
I have some more germanic and nordic sagas and legends in mind, but it will take some time!
deplorable gollompus 10 jun 2013 om 20:16
I really like the idea behind this-- real-life sagas in Skyrim. Keep it coming!
Celtic_Soldier 4 jun 2013 om 19:32
DO THE ULSTER CYCLE AND THE FIANNA TALES!!!!!! IRISH MYTHOLOGY! WOOP!
Altbert  [auteur] 3 mei 2013 om 6:08
Those two are Greek mythology. Roman might do (Imperials), but I don't know when I can do that! So little time and there's so much I still want to do.
davi_whittleman 3 mei 2013 om 4:18
Good job man! I congradulate you on this! Maybe for your next project you can add the Illiad and the Oddessy
Cpt. Carnage™ 27 feb 2013 om 21:06
When I clicked on this I thought it was going to add cairn stones with the Edda written on them but this is cool too. Poetic Edda is awesome, thanks for taking the time to do this.

Thanks
Altbert  [auteur] 25 feb 2013 om 9:37
So, you want to beat me to it? You can find the complete Edda with commentaries on http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/ . Here you find an introduction, index and links to all 35 parts.
ᚐᚅ ᚃᚔᚏ ᚇᚐᚏ 24 feb 2013 om 21:15
post the whole edda as a comment on my profile pageand ill try to create the skyrim version
Altbert  [auteur] 24 feb 2013 om 14:36
@Mafearaak: That would indeed be a good idea, but I'm not that kind of a writer. But, I'll think about it, at least if noone beats me to it!
ᚐᚅ ᚃᚔᚏ ᚇᚐᚏ 24 feb 2013 om 11:37
Maybe make a second version that changes the real gods to skyrims lore that would be cool
CaldariSteel 24 feb 2013 om 9:38
This is an awesome idea. Up-rating in advance, eager to start a collection of these and read through them.
Altbert  [auteur] 23 feb 2013 om 18:09
@lowkey1979: Thx. No idea for an "Edda"-mod. There are some small references to the Edda, but nothing very specific. And ... I'll stick to some basic modding without questlines.
lowkey1979 23 feb 2013 om 18:01
Cool mod, great for a bit of RP immersion that gives credit to the inspiration behind the whole modern Fantasy genre, and the Nord RPG trope in particular!

@Altbert, that's interesting the Beth were planning a quest based on the Edda. Maybe for a future update try and figure out what they had planned and add the quest back in or create a new one based on the Edda lore?
Altbert  [auteur] 21 feb 2013 om 16:29
@E.D.I.T. Lewboy: Yes, it should! See my last remark in the description above. I just found out that Bethesda originally planned a quest about the Edda, but never finished it. You can still find the remains of it in the CK. So, in future updates (I don't know which one) I will have the Edda in the Bards College, but not for the take!
Dropz0ne 21 feb 2013 om 10:41
Shouldn't this be available in The Bards College aswell, maybe a few books scattered here and there.
Harold 21 feb 2013 om 4:29
Ah yes i rewrote one of these poems into lyrics for a viking metal song and i used the eddas as one of my only primary sources for my essay about norse pagan burial practices.
Altbert  [auteur] 20 feb 2013 om 5:50
@pelle_torsk: You can now subscribe to the Heimskringla. Both series are now available for direct buy (not anymore randomly just one or two volumes).
Peeper 19 feb 2013 om 6:40
Thanks for checking, I appreciate that.
Altbert  [auteur] 19 feb 2013 om 3:28
Yngvar's Saga is not part of the Heimskringla. I've looked for it, but it is still copyrighted, so I can't put it in the game.
Peeper 19 feb 2013 om 1:45
Well I checked out the Museum, it is amazing...it's just not a family-friendly home. Perhaps if there was a little wing for the kids to sleep in. However, I'll be looking forward to acquiring the Heimskringla also, thanks for all the hard work on these books. One of the Icelandic Sagas (Yngvars Saga Vídförla) mentions our local area so I'm curious if the story is perhaps included.
Altbert  [auteur] 18 feb 2013 om 16:47
No need for a carpenter! Just subscribe to "The Museum" by Soldyne, and you have enough bookcases, but apart from that also enough mannequins, weaponracks, etc. BTW I am working on the Heimskringla (The chronicles of the Norse kings) at the moment. Should take a few days.
onealone 18 feb 2013 om 12:33
cool. thanks.
Peeper 18 feb 2013 om 11:45
Fantastic idea! Now to find a carpenter to build more bookcases. :)
Ailanthus 18 feb 2013 om 11:29

MartyMcMeme 17 feb 2013 om 18:41
ehh ill give it a try it may be good i acually put something like the on the mod idea wall but mine was for like 1700 america this is sorta heading ithe right dierection
Altbert  [auteur] 17 feb 2013 om 15:10
You will probably find a lot of similarities between the Edda and the Elder Scrolls, and not only in names.
NocturnalScotsman 17 feb 2013 om 15:05
I'll defonetly give these a read.
I'm actually quite interested in Norse mythology & beliefs so it seems like a great idea to me!
