I do agree that the shield does not look practical nor entirely capable of realistically defending one's body, but I don't think that's a major issue, especially considering how this is a cosmetic item and not necessarily of important use in-game. Moreover, it seems like the shield could be used as more of a weapon than defensive armor. Whatever the case, it looks good enough for me.
