Ragnarok: 1939

Опис
TL;DR Germany vs the World. Build up your army quick.
Also available: Ragnarok: 1937

Enjoy playing as Germany, but finding the difficulty lacking? Looking for a more even contest? Then Ragnarok might be just what you're looking for.

Some mods aim to increase difficulty by trying to make the AI smarter, others by slapping the player with harsh penalties. Ragnarok takes a different approach. By making a few subtle diplomatic adjustments, the German player should get the challenge they've been craving.

You might want to man your borders.
ALL your borders.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Intended only for the 1936 scenario, whilst playing as the German Reich.

Recommended settings
Difficulty: Recruit is a good idea, at least for your first playthrough
Historical AI Focuses - enabled: reduces the chance of inadvertently starting the world war early
Ragnarok: 1937 is harder than the 1939 scenario, and has some extra options available at the start for tailoring difficulty.

You have one year (Ragnarok: 1937) or three years (Ragnarok: 1939) to prepare, use them wisely.

Getting into a war with anyone starts the world war prematurely.

In battles, the amount of combat width available has been nearly tripled. Forts have been substantially reduced in effectiveness.

TIPS & SUGGESTIONS
It's best to spend the first few minutes of the game deciding on one's long-term strategy. Where will you attack first, where are you going to defend, and what will you abandon? Pay close attention to terrain and rivers, as defending in open plains will prove difficult.

Only puppets will remain loyal after the outbreak of war so national focuses that befriend other countries are a waste of time. In the 1937 scenario, you can only complete five focuses before the outbreak of war, so you need to be highly selective.

OTHER MODS & COMPATIBILITY
Mods that rebalance the game will have unpredictable effects on the difficulty and so are best avoided. Ones that change the tech tree can also lead to crashes.

Any mods that alter the '00_terrain.txt' file will negate the combat width changes. To check if another mod does so, from the Paradox game launcher, go to the "All installed mods" screen, hover over a mod and then the three dots ('...') that appear and select "Show in folder". If there is a "\common\terrain\00_terrain.txt" file within, the mod will be incompatible.

PATCH NOTES
v1.5.1
-changed HoI4 version compatability to 1.14

v1.5.0
-AI extensively reworked
  • countries no longer leave half their troops at home
  • each country has a preferred area where they will send their divisions, allowing them to better concentrate their forces and participate in combat
  • France is no longer a pushover
-combat widths adjusted down a little to more closely align with the changes made in HoI patch 1.13
-Fate of Czechoslovakia/Yugoslovia focuses now barred for 1939 scenario too
-(1937 only) factories randomly placed by national focuses in East Prussia will be moved elsewhere
-added decision to further diversify elite forces after unlocking 2 special forces trees
-fixed bug where doing the Demand Memel national focus would cause the Reintegrate Eastern Lands decision to never show up
-there will be the same amount of oil in eastern Europe with or without the Death or Dishonor DLC

To be honest after last changes this mod is a bit unplayable. It feels like it's impossible to hold the ground versus whole world when your opponents are such highly boosted. I enjoyed playing it around one year ago and that was perfect - hard, but after few retakes you were able to handle it. I know though there surely is the way to win this campaign but is it worth to try like 100 times perform totally perfect early game and load/restart the game after any micro mistake etc? It's just my humble opinion - last update took all fun out from this mod.

re: Meskita
You'll have a couple months at the start of the war to make large gains while the Allied forces assemble. After that, there'll be a period where you just need to batten down the hatches and defend. Use your tanks as mobile reserves wherever the Allies threaten a breakthrough. Eventually though, the Allied onslaught will be exhausted when they run out of equipment from the huge losses they're suffering. After that, you can go back on the offensive.

re: Meskita
I think it's probably better to go light tanks, since it'll take a long time for medium tank production to ramp up. At game start choose 'Create variant' off Improved Light Tank Chassis (not the existing Panzer II Ausf. a) and add Henschel and Close Support Gun for 6 Army XP. Production cost of 5.68 IC. Throw 50+ MILs at that and you should have around 40 panzer divisions by 1939 (assuming 8 L-ARM + 4 MOT template).

Infantry just do cheapo ones with only AA. No air force.

I'm not sure what's exactly optimal, but I did half a year of CIVs then all MILs. Anschluss early 1937 then continue on path to German War Economy.

I'd ignore the west at war start, and instead capture Denmark, overrun Czechoslovakia ASAP, advance some into Poland, and then maybe focus on Hungary -> Romania before all the tanks exhaust your fuel reserves. Strat reploy often to save fuel, they regain org fast with Mobile Warfare.

I was also thinking of going with medium tanks mostly because I´m not making that many arty and will have the tungsten to do so, I was also just wondering if I should make it have good armor too or make it as cheap as possible

by march 1939 there are tiles with 10/20/30 and even 40 divisions on both sides

yeah... that czech fight in the early is kinda hard because it takes a couple divisions to hold the line and tanks to close the cap, tanks that could be used in France and infantry that could hold the line in the east since the beginning
you really have some 2 months to cap france and Ive never managed to do it
got 24 light tanks and 18 inf (arty + AA) managed to make some 288 at the start of the war but they can[t hold much against the onslaught
I have been building mils from the start now since it appears to provide better results and a lot more troops as well

did you actually managed to do it?
would also be nice if we had the menu from the 1937

-playing in recruit (1 less than normal) and 50% germany strenght.. this was my best attempt but it doesnt last long..
in this one I managed to break through luxemburg but wasnt able to close the deal in any way, maybe I will be able to but as of now im not sure

I am a bit iffy on the change for the fate of Czechoslovakia change, I understand it is to make it more difficult, but I feel it made it a bit to difficult
Meskita 20 лют. о 8:08
problem is, the AI also has enough time to prepare for longer
I was tring before to build a civ economy, but I might just start building mills from the start to see what happens and will prob stop trying to build only elite divisions 14-4 + eng,aa,recon, hosp, reliability
