TL;DR Germany vs the World. Build up your army quick.

Enjoy playing as Germany, but finding the difficulty lacking? Looking for a more even contest? Then Ragnarok might be just what you're looking for.

Some mods aim to increase difficulty by trying to make the AI smarter, others by slapping the player with harsh penalties. Ragnarok takes a different approach. By making a few subtle diplomatic adjustments, the German player should get the challenge they've been craving.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Intended only for the 1936 scenario, whilst playing as the German Reich.

Recommended settings
Difficulty: Recruit is a good idea, at least for your first playthrough
Historical AI Focuses - enabled: reduces the chance of inadvertently starting the world war early
Ragnarok: 1937 is harder than the 1939 scenario, and has some extra options available at the start for tailoring difficulty.

You have one year (Ragnarok: 1937) or three years (Ragnarok: 1939) to prepare, use them wisely.

Getting into a war with anyone starts the world war prematurely.

In battles, the amount of combat width available has been nearly tripled. Forts have been substantially reduced in effectiveness.

TIPS & SUGGESTIONS
It's best to spend the first few minutes of the game deciding on one's long-term strategy. Where will you attack first, where are you going to defend, and what will you abandon? Pay close attention to terrain and rivers, as defending in open plains will prove difficult.

Only puppets will remain loyal after the outbreak of war so national focuses that befriend other countries are a waste of time. In the 1937 scenario, you can only complete five focuses before the outbreak of war, so you need to be highly selective.

OTHER MODS & COMPATIBILITY
Mods that rebalance the game will have unpredictable effects on the difficulty and so are best avoided. Ones that change the tech tree can also lead to crashes.

Any mods that alter the '00_terrain.txt' file will negate the combat width changes. To check if another mod does so, from the Paradox game launcher, go to the "All installed mods" screen, hover over a mod and then the three dots ('...') that appear and select "Show in folder". If there is a "\common\terrain\00_terrain.txt" file within, the mod will be incompatible.

Have you tested this recently? Newest AI tweak makes defense...virtually impossible. I can cycle units on speed 2 all day, but its absolutely stupid how the AI will now stack 80 divisions on a tile and engage in never ending combat. you cant recover org fast enough to sustain a defense of any sort. and when you eventually get pushed, the whole line will collaps, since your now de-orged boys have to instantly engage the other 60 units that still have full org.

If I wanted to play COOP with a friend with this mod, what are some countries that can join me as Germany? France seemed to be able to when testing, but the UK didn't get the same option and was just automatically in the war.

The AI doesn't do naval invasions anymore. Only Sweden lands with 4-6 divisions from time to time.

This mod is about ramping up the challenge significantly. What difficulty are you playing on? The 1937 mod was balanced so that Regular+Brutal is barely winnable (which I have indeed done). For someone new to the mod, Recruit+Normal is recommended. While the Allied hordes might seem insurmountable at first, they can't sustain the huge equipment losses they suffer, and eventually the attacks will subside, allowing you to go on the offensive.

Playing this mod requires carefully optimizing every aspect of your production. You can't afford to waste ICs. I replayed 1936 dozens of time. Go to around page 8 in these comments where I had a discussion with sm0kin about that. All the divisions on the eastern front need AA. I aim for ~10 panzer divisions at war start.

I am simply curious whether it still requires a brain to make mods nowadays. Have you ever played your own mod? I just want to ask one question, does the AI still need supply to attack? If still needed, how much did you set the numbers to? Soviet Union can stuff 40+ divisions in one tile to attack me in 1937 in my territory while I am sitting on my supply hub, and my forts cannot even weaken the attack of the other side a single bit. Ask your mommy to build such a fort for you, and fight without eating a snack bar for a month before you come and answer me. Thank you!

I managed to change the events into happening to the US, and I see the events you mentioned. However, the AI still very much sent divisions to the Americas, as I had a battle against 60 enemy divisions on one tile. Overall, I seem to have answered my own question, thank you for the help.
