Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, I'll answer your questions and post them here. Just leave a comment below with your question and I'll update this as often as I can.

• How do I open my inventory?
  Press Tab.

• How do I get wood?
  You can get wood by hitting a tree. However, it's better to find a pile of logs in the world - these will give you quite a bit more wood per hit. The pickaxe is the best tool for harvesting wood piles. Use a Hatchet if you are gathering from a tree.

• How do I get food?
  You can gather meat (currently chicken breasts) by killing any animal and hitting its corpse with a melee weapon. The meat will appear in your inventory, but it will be raw. Hatchets are best for harvesting from animals.

• How do I cook food?
  You need to make a camp fire (5 wood) from the crafting menu, and place it the food into it by holding use (E or mouse3) while aiming at the camp fire and selecting 'Open'. You can then put the food into the appropriate slots. Pressing E on the camp fire will also turn it on or off. TIP: There are 3 slots for raw chicken breast. Placing raw chicken breast in each of these will make 6 pieces cook every time.

• How do I place items?
  Drag the item into a slot near the bottom of the screen, this is known as your belt or 'quickslot' and will activate when you press the corresponding key. You will then see a green image of the item to place. Left click to place it. Use the scroll wheel to rotate the item before placing it.

• How do I get stone?
  There are various resource nodes distributed throughout the level, they work the same as a tree, except you receive various types of stone/ores. NOTE: You CANNOT harvest resources from the GIANT tan rocks on the hills. Look for light gray and dark brown/rust colored boulders in the resource areas.

• What do I do with ores?
  You can smelt ores into their constituent components by putting them into a furnace, much like a camp fire works. Add wood to the furnace along with Sulfur ore and/or Metal ore. Press E on the furnace and wait and you will get Sulfur and Metal Fragments.

• How do I get metal Fragments?
  Adding Metal ore to the furnace and cooking it will produce metal fragments.

• Does my stuff save when I quit?
  Yes, your items are saved, however your body is still in the world 'sleeping' and can be killed by anyone who finds it. It is recommended to log off in hard to see places, or inside your own shelter. NOTE: At the moment, some servers are "Non-sleeper" which means your body disappears when you log off. When you log back on you still have all of your items.

• What's a sleeping bag for?
  A sleeping bag is effectively a respawn point, You will spawn at your most recently placed sleeping bag when you press 'Camp Respawn' upon death. Be warned, you can only spawn at a sleeping bag once every 5 minutes. You don't have to "USE" a sleeping bag to respawn, just place it in the world. You can have multiple sleeping bags which will allow you to respawn on each of them if one sleeping bag is on cooldown from spawning on it.

• What button opens the console?
  F1.

• How do I turn off the grass?
  Press F1 to open the console and type "grass.on false" (Without quotations)

alanreid, I have never seen that before, you should check the forums. Might be a graphics glitch. You can try updating your video card drivers, but that might not work either. Check the forums to be sure.
