Since I've committed an hour to reviewing this chamber (plus getting in a mess when 1.1 disappeared from under me), one last comment. You may want to block a second short-cut as well: In the room with three gel dispensers, it is a simple matter to portal grey gel to the other side of the laser barrier, bypassing the flip-up surface and the button that turns off the orange funnel.

OK, so I completed the map the regular way as well. Overall, challenging, but not cripplingly difficult, and fun. This map should be rated highly.

I completed this map without leaving the first room. Here's how: Bring up the cube from the basement with the turrets. Portal jump to perch the cube on the edge of the platform under the ball dispenser. Then use a higher jump to get up there yourself, being careful not to trigger the faith plate. Save. Position the cube corner-wise on the front edge of the faith plate. Go press the button to release the ball. The cube will interfere with the faith plate. Restore and repeate a couple of times until the ball does not go through the laser window. Go down, get the ball, take it up to the exit and you're done. By the way, I am not that serious a gamer and this is the first time I have ever found a short-cut. Now I'll go back and play it properly.
