How to Beat the Chimera With Shuttles
Av MongooseCalledFred
WARNING: This guide is a product of its time. It may or may not be possible or advisable to execute in current versions.
This guide will help you defeat the Chimera if you expect to lose/have lost your main fleet.

Prerequisites:
  • Defeat the support fleets.
  • Have some crew and dark matter available. (100 crew, 50 dark matter ought to be enough, but more crew is better.)

So You Lost Your High Tier Officers
If you haven't lost those officers, take out the Chimera's two helpers (Seeder Elder, Tactical Elder), then damage the Chimera after they're gone. (It's okay to apply debuffs to the Chimera before the other Chruul are gone.) Use whatever Tier I ships you have to finish off the helpers if necessary. If/when you don't have any Tier I ships or Level 2 officers left, move to the next section.
Now, Train Some New Officers
When selecting new officers, pick whoever has an attack that inflicts Ship Disable. For example, Backstab Maneuver, Suicide Run, and Death From Above all inflict Ship Disable. If Ship Disable isn't available, pick Bend Spacetime, Cloak, or something else that you can use to get more hits in before you die. To train your new officers, have one start clearing out a room in the Starbase. If that isn't available, you'll just have to use whatever you started with (hopefully you have officers starting at level 4 by now). Before you start time, go to Ship Construction and queue three Federation Shuttles. When your officer runs into an enemy, fight! Deploy the Officers you want to level up. When you get to promote them, select the abilities you picked them for.
And Send Them Out
When your Shuttles are ready and your officers have reached Level 2, send your new fleet of Shuttles to attack the Chimera.
Hopefully the Chimera is flying solo by this point.
Use your abilities first, then Pew Pew. Be sure not to use a Ship Disable attack when the Chimera is already disabled. If you lose the fleet, go back to step two. Eventually, you should reach a point like this:
You might not have three Shuttles left.
Doesn't it feel good to finally win?
Congratulations! Enjoy the stats and achievements list.

Have you tried focus-firing the flank ships one at a time? You can use critical condition to your advantage if you can get the Chruul to stop firing one after the other.

Yeah I know that (no mean tone for those words) i played the game when it was in early access and Act 1 was the only playable act. I typed that comment so no one who was new to H6 saw this and thinks this still works.

@spectre I wrote this guide back when the Chimera was the only available boss. Beating it meant "completing" the game at that time. I chose to put the bold text in the description rather than update it, primarily because I want to keep a version around.

This doesn't work anymore as the Chimera has 100% resistance to ship disable and Act 2 begins
with tons of raids by the Chruul, Voraash (new guys introdunced in Act 2), all of which use high level tier 3 ships AND you have the threat of the Chruul attacking other races home worlds with ships more powerful than the Chimera.

@Another Potato It only works to win Act I. If you intend to use this save file later, you're better off save-scumming. On the other hand, we don't actually know how Act II starts out, so it might actually be beneficial to be worse off than usual.

This should not work but it does XD
