Part 1: Desktop Prep
On Your Desktop, Right-Click, then go down to 'New' and from the window that pops out click 'New Folder'

Name this new folder the game you are working on the name of the game with No Comma, No spaces, no capitals (for example, if you are going to do Portal 2, name the folder portal2, or like if your working with Counter Strike Global Offensive, name the folder csgo, and press enter

Like this :

IMPORTANT!
NOW THIS IS GOING TO GO TWO DIFFRENT WAYS,

SO SKIP TO THE NEXT LIST IF THE GAME YOU ARE COPYING ISN'T ON THE LIST SKIP DOWN TO THE PART STATRTING WITH COMMON FOLDER GAMES TO FIND THE GAME YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

STEAMAPPS FOLDER GAMES:
SKIP DOWN TO 'COMMON FOLDER GAMES' BELOW IF YOU GAME ISNT ON THIS LIST

IF YOU ARE USING
  • Half-Life Source

  • Half-Life Deathmatch Source ( You also need to copy the Hl1 and Hl1mp folders from the Half-life Deathmatch Source folder under your steam name folder and put all the other folders in these two folders in the folder you created for this game on the Desktop)

Then,

Navigate to ( Unless you use a Diffrent Lettered Drive for you Windows OS) Then:

  • 32-Bit - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps
  • 64-Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps

and look for the game you want, like for Portal 1, look for 'Portal Content' and double click on it to open it in GCFScape

COMMON FOLDER GAMES:
  • Half-Life 2*1
  • Half-Life 2: Epsoide 1*1
  • Half-Life 2: Epsoide 2*1
  • Half-Life 2 Deathmatch ( If you are doing the last three, unless you don't have them, then why do this one? unless you want the maps? lol)
  • Counter-Strike Source
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  • Team Fortress 2 ( Source Filmmaker downloads TF2 stuff with it, but the TF2 that SFM comes with is a completely old version from what i read, though i might be wrong)
  • Dota 2

For Portal and Portal 2: Valve has added Free DLC to the SFM called "Portal Content Pack" which adds various objects, models and sounds from Portal 1 and Portal 2, Continue with this method if you wants maps from the games in SFM

For Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2: Valve has also added free DLC called 'Left 4 Dead Content Pack' for the SFM which will add all of the models, objects, and sounds. Use my method for getting maps into the SFM

This free DLC thing goes the same for Day of Defeat Source, Black Mesa ( the mod), Dino D-Day, Blade Symphoney, and The Stanley Parable.

You can add these by opening SFM, going to File > Downlodable Content

-*1 = Half-Life 2 and the epsoide models, and i think some music and sounds have been uploaded to the Source Filmmaker Workshop by Valve Themselves under the name 'Valve Artists, located at: http://steamcommunity.com/id/valve_artists/myworkshopfiles/?appid=1840
Use my methoid only if you are going for the game's maps

THEN

Navigate to

  • 32-Bit - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common
  • 64-Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

Using Portal 2 as an example, now open Portal 2\portal2

Now copy the entire portal2 folder to a location, like the desktop. Then open the Window to the game you copied on to the desktop ( or wherever you copied to and scroll down to the pak01_dir.vpk and double click it to open it in GCFScape ( all other Source Games in the Common folder will have a pack01_dir.vpk in their (source Game Name\gamename)

The Games that were recently updated to SteamPipe, using Counter Strike: Source as an example go into Common/Cstrike/cstrike_pak_dir.vpk

ALSO, MAP FILES FOR ALL STEAMPIPE GAMES ARE IN THE MAPS FOLDER (NOT IN THE VPKS, BUT IN THE FOLDER LIKE Portal/portal/maps, COPY THEM FROM HERE AND PASTE THEM IN THE FOLDRS YOU WILL BE PUTTING INTO THE SOURCEFILMAKER FOLDER LATER IN THE GUIDE!
Part 2 - GCFScape
Now we are in GCFScape, see the file on the right box?

Right Click and then left click 'Extract'

Remember the folder on the desktop we made for our game? ( in my case, portal2)

well in the window asking where to extract the selected folders to click the new folder you created on the desktop earlier and then click ok.

7. Now GCFScape will copy the games files to the new folder we created on the desktop, give it time to complete

Part 3 - Finishing up
Close the folder, now on the Desktop, Right Click the folder and left click 'Cut'

Now Navigate to

  • 32-Bit - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sourcefilmmaker\game
  • 64-Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sourcefilmmaker\game

and press CTRL+V to paste the folder in here.

Now, Go to Steam, in your library, go to Software, and right-click on 'Source Filmmaker' and click 'Launch SDK' Now in the Window that comes up, click ' Edit Sarach Paths for Selected Mod, then you should see the name of the folder you pasted into the SFM Folder, click so that the check mark shows up, click OK, then close the SDK. Now open SFM to check if your folder is in there.

We're Done! you should be able to use the game you desire in the Source Filmmaker. Have fun

GCFScape extracted the vpk files into .lst files instead of bsp for some reason? And source filmmaker can't read them because of that
