Just a simple guide for people who are new to Morrowind and it's major mods, and want to get the most out of the current technology of the top mods available, and ease of access sucessfully installing them.

I do not own any of the mods that I mention in my guide.

UPDATE:
upd: [planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com] is no more. gone, dead, the end. (goes for all links, unfortunately. there were a lot of mods there, most are gone, some are saved to other sites.) the link to Morrowind Crafting is : http://mw.modhistory.com/download--10477. at MMh - Morrowind Modding history.

Ornitocopter's Morrowind Overhaul v3.0
So yeah, I tried modding Morrowind several times way back when, and got confused and frustrated a lot with some guides out there. There were sites that told me what to download, and how to specifically download them, and it was really annoying because: BROKEN LINKS, BAD DIRECTIONS, and tl;dr (I mean seriously, LITERALLY 10 giant paragraphs of this stuff).

So THANKFULLY someone made a mod for people like me who just want to PLAY THE DAMN GAME, but have it look decent and get the full experience of modding. Also all that PC superiority stuff contained in one easy-to-install package.

I give you, The Morrowind Overhaul v3.0:

Ornitocopter's Morrowind Overhaul 3.0[www.ornitocopter.net]

Video: http://youtu.be/d69wYi3_LWo

Came out September 2012, these guys are cool. Pick your preferred method to download, and let it install.

CAUTION: FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE README AND INSTALLATION CAREFULLY!

If you have any questions, check their faq, check their wiki, check here on the steam forums, check your favorite video game imageboard, whatever, just don't ask me because I won't know! I, like many others, just installed it, and it worked, so...yeah (I mean, I guess you could post here and someone in HERE might help...but not me, I'm not good at that stuff, I'm just the messenger).

Anyway, I recommend the mod in general because it's the newest, and best mod for newbies (not best mod, how would I know that?). So have at it.

For those who want to know what modifications this overhaul contains,:

Here's a picture of me playing the game:

I have loads more if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of this guide.
Sotha Sil Expanded
This is Sotha Sil Expanded. It is a mod that expands the area within the game called Sotha Sil. Without giving too much away, let me just say that all I know about it (from playing the game and from reading the mod site) is that it is a user made expansion that is lore-friendly to the series and is a MASSIVE achievement in terms of mod-making. If you are wanting to add more content to your exciting experience into morrowind for your first playthrough, or wanting to return to the land of Morrowind, this is a good mod to install.

Tamriel Rebuilt
Tamriel Rebuilt is still in development, but a lot of content has been released. It practically brings a whole new load of land mass!

See for yourself:

Other Awesome Mods
These are just some other mods that are also very popular and can help enhance or renew your experience within the land of Morrowind.
Morrowind Crafting
Morrowind Crafting is an RP mod which attempts to improve the role-playing experience of Morrowind without unbalancing it. The various "skills" added by Morrowind Crafting allow the player to create over 1230 different items. The skill advancement formulas and training system are designed so that advancement of crafting skills blends in seamlessly with Morrowind's standard skills. In order to make your character a more "well-rounded" person, MC adds the following skills and abilities:

1) Woodworking: crafting of furniture and other wooden items.
2) Basketweaving: including baskets and wicker hampers
3) Glass Blowing: Creating glass bottles, plates, jugs, and limeware
4) Candle making: Create candles in seven styles and eight colors.
5) Jewelry craft: Craft rings, including five new "elegant" rings between expensive and extravagant as well as new exquisite rings.
6) Weaving: Create cloth, rugs, and tapestries (5 qualities with 10 designs each)
7) Pottery: Create clay items and urns as well as liquor jugs for brewery.
8) Craft equipment: Make hammers, picks, probes, and alchemy apparatus of various qualities
9) Sewing: Sew clothing and other items from cloth, furs, and skins.
10) Poison Making: Brew any of eight poisons and apply them to arrows, bolts, darts, stars, throwing knives, and hand bombs (grenades)
11) Fletching: Create arrows, bolts and darts of various types.
12) Mining: Mine crystals and rocks for iron ore, silver ore, raw glass, raw ebony, diamonds, and raw adamantium. The higher your skill, the more you collect.
13) Cooking: Cook foods from the simple "kagouti chop" to the complex "Kagarine". Foods are compatible with Necessities of Morrowind and Primary Needs and provide very minor health and fatigue benefits if neither mod is active.

14) Brewing: Brew flin, cyrodiilic brandy, sujamma, mazte, greef, and shein in oak kegstands
15) Smithing: Create arms and armor of 21 different varieties including 7 Chitin, bonemold, and fur armors, 7 iron based armors, and 7 exotic armors. A special quest is required to make the component needed to forge daedric armor and weapons.
16) Miscellaneous tasks: Collect sand and clay from various underwater locations on the island. Smelt ore into ingots. Melt down scrap metal and silver dinnerware for materials. Spin raw fiber into thread. Set up camping and cooking fires.
17) Sell crafted projects to several purchasing agents located throughtout Vvardenfell and Mournhold
18) Train crafting skills with various trainers located about the island including 5 "secret" master crafting trainers.

Version 2.0 has an upgraded menuing system which is designed to facilitate repeated crafting without the need to continually reselect the previous item.

Note that Morrowind Crafting 2.0 is NOT an upgrade but a mod replacement. It is not intended to be used in conjunction with a prior version, however it is fully compatible with house mods designed to work with earlier versions.

Starfire's NPC's
This mod aims to add npcs to various settlements and parts of the wilderness. It has the aim of adding NPC'S that blend in and maintain the feel of vanilla morrowind and its expansions. This mod was designed as a standalone NPC adder but is completely compatable with MCA. I highly recommend running it with Children of Morrowind and NoM.

NoM (Necessities of Morrowind)[planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com]
Living Cities of Vvardenfell
Living Cities of Vvardenfell puts many of the NPCs of Morrowind on daily schedules. NPCs will move about over the course of day, going to work, temple, the local tavern, or simply wandering around town. At night, more guards come out, while NPCs lock up their shops and go home and turn down the lights.

Caution: The NPC's DO move around a lot so unless you are familiar with certain important NPC locations, I would not really recommend this mod because you might get frustrated trying to find people in order to beat the game if this is your first playthrough.

Hey, everybody. I see some links are dead for you all. Here is a great website: https://web.archive.org/ You can find archives of many websites, and their files, on here. So, for example, in the comments saltmummy626 links to a morrowind crafting mod which I can pull up here: https://web.archive.org/web/20180604074410/http://mw.modhistory.com/download-80-10477 Maybe there is a newer version of it if you search carefully in that archive!

Archive the mods you don't want to lose forever on that website. I recommend creating an account, then when you go to archive things you can tell it to archive ALL OUTLINKS which will save you a lot of time. You can also create archive collections to help you find these files again in the future!

Is Ornitocopter's 3.0 Overhaul Mod no longer available? The website redirects multiple times for me. I had it a couple years ago. What's the best way to jump into Morrowind for the first time 2020?

DO NOT use tamriel rebuilt. It alters part of the main quest, making it much more drawn out, convoluted and frustrating than it has to be!
