Viper's Return

Omschrijving
If the first room of this chamber looks familiar, then you've played "Kaleidoscope Eyes". The last room in that chamber was meant to be solved using an element in a specific way but in the end, "Kaleidoscope Eyes" could be solved by regular means thus defeating what I had set up. That's what this test chamber remedies. You must use this element in a specific way or you're not leaving this room. I'm curious to know how many others know about it as I have never seen it used anywhere.

When you solve this room there are three others to traverse, although they are not very difficult. Room 3 is a solute to one of my favorite custom chambers that was rendered in the original Portal game. The author's name is reepblue but the name of the chamber is lost on my memory. I've set room 3 up the same way with a few twists. I hope you enjoy it.

Be sure to say "hi" to your friend, the companion cube.

Another nice one, Andi. It took me a while to figure out the right way to bounce in that first chamber.

I didn't take into account that there needs to be a learning curve when playing this chamber. I just started doing that, my last chamber "The Tombs" has a learning curve.

I'm happy to hear you liked most of it.

I also found the first part very challenging (almost like it's some sort of skill puzzle more than anything :P). However the rest of the test is good.

You're right. I thought about that after the fact but it was too late to fix it. My new maps don't use new techniques without a "lesson" first.

Thanks for playing and thanks for the comment.

Again, I'll confirm what everyone else said: it's a new, interesting technique, but without guidance it's counter-intuitive. I would not have thought of that on my own. I have two ideas that I've never seen used before, but part of why I haven't made the maps yet is I need to design several smaller puzzles to ease players into it. In my opinion that's what this level needed too: rather than put the new technique first and not reuse it in the other rooms, you should either start with a training room like Mevious does, or design smaller, earlier puzzles to trick the player into finding the new technique by accident and then end with the first puzzle.
