Banzai Charge: An In-depth Look [Video Guide]
Af Bitter Willie og 1 partnere
An advanced and in-depth look at the Banzai charge. Its in-game effects on your own character (damage resistance and speed), but also on that of nearby enemy characters (suppression). It shows you the best ways to banzai as well as when to take other measures into your own hands. It also contains useful mechanical tips on how to increase your fluidity with the controls while banzaiing, giving you greater options as you charge across the battlefield. All from an experienced honour level 95 player.

An important point I left out is that you DO NOT need to bandage while banzai charging. If you carry on moving with your charge, your wounds will heal themselves. So there is no reason to hit the dirt, out in the open to bandage up mid-charge because you think you're going to bleed out in the next few seconds. You won't... as long as you're holding that melee button.

Another thing to note is that you do NOT get banzai toughness bonuses while grenade banzaiing. You would've thought you would, seeing as in every Pacific WWII-themed film EVER there's a Japanese soldier who plays dead with a grenade and blows a few Marines up.

Edit: Grenade Types are not map-specific, they are just class specific. Knee Mortar gets the Type 91 grenade which has the 8 second fuse. Other classes get the 95 with a 5 second fuse. #derp

I dont agree about team wide strategy.
I have been playing in a very short game. All because of our commander. We were in desperade situation, because we barely defended our last province. So at first arty, and then team wide banzai. We cleared the first point so fast and got to the next that yankees couldnt even go to defensive positions. Map:Honta or something like that, there are big amount of water. Our loses were so small and so unimportant in comparsion with the allied ones ... it just unbeliveable that one charge could break defense so fast.... But your tutorial is very interesting thank you for it.

I heard on another guide that the number of chargers only increases the radius not the dmg resistance.

This has nothing to do with Banzai attacks or anything, but make sure that you shoot bleeding out friendlies. Better you get the kill and get it forgiven than the enemies getting it. Your friend will die with honor.

@WilliamTheTard Mass banzais are extremely effective and we professionals take it very seriously. It is an underused and misunderstood strategy that most people look over because they think that running out into the open will end like stalingrad. Banzais have a time and a place, and when you master that, you cannot be stopped.

A few things to add maybe.
You can get suicide kills(=no ticket loss) with knee mortar or booby traps too.
For example if you're in a spider hole on Phosphate, don't be afraid to plant a booby trap right behind u. If a yank jumps in, you're dead anyway but THIS way u won't lose a ticket.
(Because you blow urself and the yank with the same grenade so to speak).

Yeah melee attacks still do a lot of damage for some reason. A coordinated banzai charge is powerful, but think about how easy it is to repel with a coordinated American defence as well (which basically amounts to 'flamers at the front'). I haven't seen any professional competitive Rising Storm play (they all stick to RO2), but I would bet anything that mass banzais are not the answer. Skilful players can aim and employ tactics to anticipate them. I could see them being effective in small pockets of maybe 2-3 men, but not as a team-wide strategy.

What an awesome video man. Thank you very much. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this :)

oh, also, you should mention that you get no damage resistance from melee attacking. i stabbed a lot of banzai charges right before they managed to land a hit.

just for the record. if banzai charges were easy to coordinate they would be overpowered as hell. the difficulty to rally up random strangers to start running with knives at machineguns is part of the balance...
