You are a squad of "Offworld Drop Marines".

You are engaged in a war with hostile creatures in the Outer Systems.

Your tour ending, you have returned to Earth.

And now you learn the war has reached your home planet...

What will you do?

Will you hide out in some bunker somewhere and count off the remainder of your days? Will you abandon Earth (if you even can) to go live on some barren rock world, out on the fringes of the known galaxy? Or will you choose to risk your life and follow a cryptic, self-appointed, possibly insane leader on a questionable mission to save the world?

Reduction is a "story mod' (a non-canonical campaign by myself) for the game Alien Swarm (by Valve). Basically it keeps all the great Alien Swarm gameplay, units (marines and aliens), weapons and actions, but adds a new story and a new setting (in the familiar, generic starship-troopers-versus-aliens sub-genre of science fiction).

The Reduction blog is here:

Reduction is free to download and play. In order to play Reduction, you need a copy of Valve's Alien Swarm ([].

Right now there are 6 levels finished and available to play. I just finished Mission 6. It's taken me about 6000 hours so far - my Steam profile is xfunc_carter, and you can see my hours in the Alien Swarm SDK there, plus I've spent about 1000 on Source [out of my 3000+ there] building models in Propper). (Well, you could see them there... until Valve changed it to stop logging SDK hours.)

After MIssion 6, there are about 6 more to go. Then I'd like to do a prequel, a parallel and a sequel campaign.

My plan is to keep building levels and releasing them until it's finished or I'm dead.

If Reduction gets "Greenlit", I expect you could see it as a free download for Steam, as an official Alien Swarm campaign. However, with enough support (from Steam or Valve, from the Kickstarter community, from the Alien Swarm community, from whomever...)... with enough support it could be turned into a separate game, with new aliens, new soldiers, new weapons. What sets Reduction apart is its original world and story. (It may even be better as a single-player game.)

why is it that the best games are the ones that never get to be public?

You are one dedicated S.O.B. to be putting in those hours to produce a brand new campaign for this game. I learned to not hope for anything in games, but if you make this turn out into something great, then maybe there is hope for the gaming industry in the future.

Man, Valve really needs to work on getting support to people who actually put good stuff on Greenlight and not really stupid shit like Goat Simulator...

Madstryker, I haven't touched it in a year.

I'm still trying to figure out how to use Greenlight to raise funding to... you know... actually pay people to make the game. I haven't heard a peep from Valve, so I have no idea how to proceed.
