"Deadly Rooms of Death" (DROD) is a turn-based puzzle dungeon crawl.

It is a 2D top-down puzzle adventure that focuses on hardcore gameplay mechanics, best described succinctly as "Zelda chess."

This game is not about the graphics. It's about clever puzzle design and unique play mechanics. Each room is a unique, hand-crafted puzzle that you solve by clearing out all the monsters. Gameplay is turn-based, and by making moves as fast or as slow as you like, you can experience the action and solve puzzles at your own pace. This game features a completely unique puzzle-adventure play style.

This game is the latest title in the ongoing DROD franchise. "Gunthro" is designed as an entry-level offering to the DROD world, with both new players and veterans in mind. The level layout is has multiple hub areas to explore. The game starts easy, has a smooth learning curve and an integrated online hints system. You should be pleased by the puzzle designs that went into this game, making for a delightful blend of fun and challenge.

The story:

In this game, Beethro Budkin recounts an epic tale of adventure to his nephews about his grandfather, Gunthro Budkin, and his exploits in the dangerous nation of Rasarus. Gunthro is a third-generation smitemaster, and a rather ugly man. Smitemasters are hard-bitten, muscled veteran dungeon exterminators that slay hideous beasties in dark places for a living. You know Gunthro will get the job done, and you'll happily pay him to clear your basement of giant man-eating dungeon roaches.

When the Rasarun king is slain by an officer of Tueno, Gunthro is recruited by Rasarus to defend his country and reclaim its honor. However, as Gunthro searches deeper, he will find that things are not quite as they seem.

Experience the unique turn-based puzzle dungeon-crawler adventure that is DROD!

DROD is really a great puzzle game, I've been following the series for 10 years and never disappointed me. It really deserves more attention and more audience, puzzles are really thoughtful and the community keeps releasing more exciting stuff month after month. Now don't jugde the difficulty of the game by this episode, this is an easier one just to attract new gamers, the last episode (The City Beneath) was very challenging and the next episode, The Second Sky, is said to be even more hardcore. Also the episodes always are very huge, the game take really much time to be completed, it's not the kind of game you buy and after a week it's already completed, it's gonna take really more time, trust me.

I absolutely love all DROD games and I'm thrilled that they might come to Steam!

Ok have already commented but I would vote more than once to see all the DROD games on steam, they deserve some attention. I think it is unfair to compare them to zelda (as I have seen some posters do) because they are nothing like zelda. I only own one DROD title but have played a demo of most. They are puzzle games that are totaly unique and satisfying when you finally manage to complete a room. Great stuff.

Wow.. I'm related to Erik Hermansen. I think on my mother's side, but I could be remembering that wrong. Erik might recognize the last name "Miner" or "Schieck", just saying in the rare case that he ends up reading this. I'd be surprised if he remembered me though. I remember meeting him only once when he visited my house and I showed him one of my own games. I remember Erik saying he was surprised that I was able to finish making it, because a lot of people don't finish their games, then he told me to look up his game, Deadly Rooms of Death. That's all I remember though. It was quite a few years ago when I met him, definitely more than 7 years ago because I was still living with my parents at that time.

Anyway, it's great to see that DROD has done well and I hope it becomes more successful.

Been playing DROD since the original was released way back in the late '90s. Easily the best turn-based puzzle game ever. This definitely deserves a place here on Steam.
