DLC Progress Update, Pricing (FREE*) Info
*** GREAT NEWS ***

As of today the DLC is playable start to finish. It's rough and needs lots of fine tuning, and there are some (important) mechanics missing. In total there are about 200 things left on the list, but most of that is just texturing at this point.

I sincrely hope when it releases that you all enjoy it. What's amazing to me is how closely it sticks to my original plan for it, which was over 2 years ago now (I'm going to have to dig into my SVN archives and see when I really did start work on this.)

*** IMPORTANT *** Just to manage expectations:

  • There will be basically NO information on the DLC until very shortly before it's released.
  • You will never predict exactly what it is.
  • You will think it's very weird when you first see it.
  • It's not super long to play thru.
  • There's no combat; there are puzzles, but not super difficult or elaborate ones.
  • It is, however (very) dense in back-story and content/world building.
  • It will almost definitely have more music by yesso.
  • If you finished The Real Texas, it will make more sense, but that's not totally required.
  • For better or for worse, it's the follow-up I wanted to make. The story unfolds and ends in the way I originally envisioned. I'm not saying more than that, except I sinecrely hope you enjoy it :)

*** ALSO IMPORTANT *** Regarding the DLC being free:

  • TO REITERATE: The DLC will be FREE if you bought the game direct, on GOG, or through another store as a normal purchase (you won't get a Steam key via GOG, as they don't do that, but the DLC will be added to the original game for you there.)
  • HOWEVER! THERE IS ONE CATCH! And this is maybe a slight change. If you bought the game in a PWYW bundle, such as Humble Bundle, the DLC will have to be purchased separately (remember: you are still getting The Real Texas on Steam, of course-- this ONLY applies to the DLC.) It will be inexpensive, probably $5.

My reasoning for this is simple: essentially this was a huge amount of work. Off-and-on for 2 years, plus it will be about 4 months full-time. Also, my ability to make hopefully a little bit of money soon-ish is fairly crucial to my current situation. So I am hoping that some of the people who already have the game through a bundle will decide to pick up the DLC as a way also of supporting the game, especially if (like I do) they bought the bundle as a way to save money and so didn't pay a bunch.

*** FINAL CATCH: ***

Sometimes people are generous and buy bundles and pay a lot more than the minimum. If that's you (and you can decide this for yourself, I'm not setting a limit or anything) I don't want you to feel shortchanged! So please drop me an email when the game releases and I will get you a key for the DLC.

Basically, if you feel this is unfair-- just email me. But hopefully most people will feel this is reasonable. Either way, thank you for buying the game!

Alright! Back to work for me. Drop me questions/feedback in the comments if you have them!

The Real Texas part of the Humble Weekly Sale
What the Heck is Mesquite Anyways? It's wood.

Hey Everybody!

Great news for anybody who is (patiently) waiting for The Real Texas to hit Steam, you can pick it up now PWYW as part of this week's Humble Weekly Sale:

>>> Humble Weekly Sale Starting April 17 <<<[humblebundle.com]

THERE ARE OTHER COOL GAMES IN THIS BUNDLE! My personal faves are Cryptic Sea EP and KRUNCH, but I hear good stuff about the other ones too :)

Yeah Yeah But Will I Get a Steam Key

Of course! I'm not like, Ciril Sneer (though I do want to deforest the entire earth, but that's a story for another day.)
  • If you buy the bundle, the game will redeem on Steam when it's finally available here.
  • If you bought direct or through another bundle, you'll get a Steam key then, too.
  • If you bought it through FastSpring and want it in your Humble Library, just email me support@kittylambda.com with your original order #

The only way I can see this going horribly, horribly wrong would be if Valve changed their police and was all like, "no you can't just give codes anymore." But the chances of this happening are basically nil, they've never even slightly said they ever even thought about doing that. So yeah! So long as it's in my control, of course you'll get a dang Steam thinguie.

Now, about that Steam Release... :)

So just as a quick update, there's NO ETA for Steam release but it'll happen. I'm heavily into my next project right now which is the main reason this has taken so long, but also I've been working bit by bit on a significant addition to the game for when it hits Steam. So it will still be awhile longer (all the more reason to just grab it now, if you want it!) but when it finally hits Steam there will be something extra and cool for you

Not spoiling it, but it'll be reason enough to go back to the game even if you finished it already.

Thanks for your patience everybody! I'm really just one guy, when Texas got greenlit it was a bit of a surprise but I want to make the Steam release something exciting for you, and not do a halfway job :)

Have a great weekend!

Scot.Dos not quite March 18th (it's March 29th today :)

BUT as of today the DLC is now playable start to finish! This is huge for me.

ALSO: I have posted a new announcement. Please read it and tell me what you think, it includes a (hopefully small) change to the "free" part of "free dlc" (please read it before you reply, but please DO tell me what u think.)

Will the DLC also be added to the GOG.com version?

Thanks everyone :) Really nice to come in here and read these encouraging comments. I have about 550 things left on the list for the DLC (main game is ready, basically.) Sounds like a lot but on a good day I can get 30 things done per day (I probably average about 20.) So it's not far off! To put into perspective I've finished about 650 things so far.

This is the first project where I have tried to comprehensively plan out every little thing, it took about 2 weeks of planning but it is paying off :)

I played TRT when it first came out but never beat it. Out of the blue I decided to look it up today to see if it ever made it to Steam. Very happy to read that we're close to seeing that. Go, psysal, go!
