Cult week #5: Dolf and The Ambition Congregation
Cult week #4: Ray and The Onyx Successors
Description
Release date: 2018

Today’s a big day for the young couple of Dan and Sarah.
They’ve recently inherited a beach house from Dan’s father, who’s been missing since Dan was a young boy.
Eager to learn more about his estranged relative, Dan and Sarah set off to explore the abandoned home.

Upon arrival, the two discover numerous supernatural artifacts and beings unlike anything found on earth.
Further exploration leads the couple into an extensive series of halls and labs, seemingly dedicated to researching these supernatural phenomenons and otherworldly creatures.

Things pick up when Dan and Sarah are suddenly kidnapped by a group of cultists, who established religions based around the monsters Dan’s father fought in the past.
They believe that by sacrificing Dan, they can revive the monster of their choice, and rule over the other cults.

It’s up to you to help Dan and Sarah in their journey.

Do you wish to escape the cults? Or maybe they’ve got the right idea, and you’d like to help them out? It’s your call.

Large Items - Not all items can fit in your inventory. You’ll be vulnerable while carrying these, so be careful!

Equipment Panel - Apply buffs, and even disguises to assist Dan in his exploits.

Basic combat - Defend yourself with various weapons.

Follower mechanics - Sarah helps you along your journey in several ways.

Dynamic world - Decisions you make have an impact on the world and endings.

Mockingbird stalks the halls of level three, in search of blood.

He seems to have a habit of mutilating the faces of his victims for unknown reasons.

You’ll need to learn to defend yourself if you’d like to avoid a similar fate.

His behavior is entirely randomized, you'll never know for sure what he'll do next.

Keep your eyes peeled and and listen closely for footsteps if you want to survive.

Acrimony is a hollow shell with an intent to kill.

It will stop at nothing to take down its prey, and will chase you periodically throughout the game.

Paired with his ability to phase through walls, you'll find yourself running away when you hear its roars.

Also, keep it away from other monsters. They tend to not get along so well.

A fresh take on the point-and-click genre

A cast of unique characters and interesting monster designs

Open ended gameplay

An entirely original soundtrack

The first three levels are designed to introduce the player to the new mechanics in Project Beach House.

The game starts in Dan’s house, where you’re introduced to the basic mechanics of an adventure game (for the newbies), as well as the equipment panel and large item mechanics.

In the next level, the Beach House, Sarah’s follower mechanics become more prevalent, and you’ll learn the basics of teaming up with her.

The third level is a trial by fire. The player is dropped into an extremely large maze-like zone, featuring two monsters! You’ll need to keep an open mind and be ready to experiment with your strategies to survive.

Afterwards, the player meets the cultists. They can now choose what order they go about visiting them. Depending on the order they choose, events change and new opportunities arise. Try different orders each playthrough for different results!

PBH is currently in a stable beta form. The first official demo will be released soon, and consists of the first three levels of the game.

Our goal is to have the game be released to early access.

Mac and Linux ports are possible, expect them shortly after the Windows release.

Keep in mind, this game has a definite end to it. The story can only take the player in so many directions, therefore PBH will not be stuck in Early Access hell. Expect a 2018 release.

Development has been smooth and since a majority of the main features are already implemented, updates will be more interesting (like entire levels or gameplay overhauls) and occur more frequently.

None of the game's current designs are completely concrete, as it develops many things are subject to change down the line. Stay tuned for more updates!

A SCUMM interface is an odd choice here. This whole game feels to me like a mix of elements, that don't quite fit to each other. Can't point it out exactly, but there's rough edges everywhere.
Would not buy this right at release, but maybe if it's getting good feedback. Not voting for now.
