The Fox Hole

The Fox Hole is a starting-mid player home. It has all the cozy essentials near the start of the game without being too over-the-top. Oh, and an adorable pet fox that wanders indoors named Winston.

*** UPDATE 0.2 *** Because the bookshelves were redone, your books probably fell all over the floor. Simple pick them up and replace on the bookshelves. This only happened because I had to replace the shelf containers.

If you think you found a bug, please read the 'Known Bugs' before commenting.

This charming stone farm house sits in the middle of a river with scenic views and dock space for relaxing and fishing. A small fox family roams outside while your personal pet fox, Winston, enjoys the cozy fire and food on the inside. Indoors you will find two floors and a basement with everything you need for crafting and storage. Realistically, a brand new character fresh out of a near-beheading should probably not own a mansion. The Fox Hole is a perfect solution for an early-game home.

Please see the last screenshot for the map location.

. All tools needed for crafting including: Forge, Smelter, Grindstone, Workbench, Tanning Rack, Enchanting, Alchemy, and Cooking
. Enchanting and Alchemy tables have two satchels each with additional storage nearby
. Some form of storage on each floor for convenience
. A small personal library
. Companions and followers will follow you into the house
. A bed to gain Rested bonus
. A pet fox, Winston who will roam around from his kennel, food dishes, and bed
. Fully navmeshed indoors AND outdoors with idle markers throughout
. There are currently no mannequins, as they are far too buggy at the moment and I get WAY too many "mannequins are bugged" comments on my other mod

It is good practice to make a real save game (not a quick save), at least every few days and back these up.

. If using Steam Workshop, simply press Subscribe
. OR Extract the file (thefoxhole.esp) to your Data folder and make sure it is checked in the Data popup of your Skyrim launcher.

. Make SURE you REMOVE everything from The Fox Hole before you uninstall, as the house will be removed from the game. You will lose your items unless you remove them. If using Steam Workshop, simply press Unsubscribe
. OR Delete the file (thefoxhole.esp) from your Data folder

I built this mod mainly for my own use, as I really wanted a simple modest home for my new character. I welcome any suggestions regarding addons and improvements, but I want to keep things relatively simple. :>

Feel free to check out my other house mod The Reserve, for something a bit more lavish. (

I personally recommend the use of the mods: "Static Mesh Improvement Mod", and "Pure Waters", as the Static Mesh Imp. makes so many of the in-game assets look simply amazing, and the Pure Waters will make your scenic views that much better.

If you find any bugs or graphical issues, Please bring them to my attention so they can be fixed. :)

. May not work with other mods that change the landscape in or around this same location

This is the only add-on house that I have used for more than one character. I like non-OP. I like the location. I like all crafting with no loading screens. I think the layout is as close to ideal as one can get. It could have had a lttle bit more diverse storage (there are unusable boxes that could have been empty shelf space even if they were not usable containers) but that is a minor quibble with a Five-Star mod.

Hi flowered_angel
Nah not in your Library, I meant when you click PLAY to start the game, the small window (Launcher) pops up and should have a few options like "Data Files" or something on it. if you click Data Files it should show you all your installed mods (in your case then it should show The Fox Hole and the Unofficial Patches - do you have them? If not, that could be contributing to your probs). I think it's always a good idea to get SKSE, and also LOOT.

Also, the Skyrim Community has some awesome and tireless members who have made a terrific comprehensive guide to common probs – check out:

Hi Fayde1, I rebooted my computer and when I logged in this time my Fox Hole was back, but my loot was all gone unfortunately. Went back to a really old save game I had and now my stuff is there. Unfortunately it's seeming really glitchy since it was gone, and then there, but no stuff and stuff in an old save.

The Fox Hole was the only mod I had for Skyrim.

I don't see anywhere where it says I have the Fox Hole on my Steam Library though? I just got it by clicking the Subscribe button way back when.

I don't have SKSE either.

Try to reload again, if you haven't done that already.
First thing, make sure you have no conflicting mods. Maybe in the same area?
Also, go to your mod manager and make sure all your mods (especially this one) are ticked for loading - usually this is done just by starting the game from your Steam Library.
I'd suggest running Loot (free download - it sorts your Load Order into the best possible order and looks for conflicts etc)
And if you have SKSE installed, restart the game using yur SKSE icon only, not the Steam Library...
See how you go?
