The survivors told many stories of their triumph in the woods of Kings Island, which gnarled the pit of THE BEAST’s gut for many years. Legend has it that the offspring was let loose to seek revenge, and as with any rebellious child, it set out to blaze its own trail by being bolder, brasher, and more thrilling. Now, most are still afraid to speak its name, SON OF BEAST.

In 2000, SON OF BEAST was set free to terrorize the public as the tallest (218ft), fastest (78mph), and only wooden hyper roller coaster with loop in the world. It produced a G force of 4.5 and thrashed you like no other. Due to the rough ride causing minor injuries, the loop was removed before the 2007 season and lighter cars were used to smooth out the ride a little. After a non-fatal accident in 2009 the ride was closed, and has not been reopened as of the 2012 season.

Riding the SON OF BEAST was a rough experience that left me bruised with a slight headache, but it was also quiet exhilarating. Riding along the top of the main hill was scary for someone who is acrophobic, then the absolute rush of screaming down the main hill. Feeling the G forces of the double helix’s and knowing that only centrifugal force is keeping on the loop made it my second favorite roller coaster, just behind THE BEAST. I missed the loop when it was taken out, and hope they find a way to open it again.

My test chamber version of SON OF BEAST is a simulation of the coaster within the constraints of the matrix. It is not a puzzle, it is an experience. I start you on an observation desk so you can see what you are in for. Then go down the shaft to start your ride. For the best riding experience, use your mouse ONLY to keep the progressing lights (simulated tracks) in front of you.
